Two Shampoos: Nancy Boy and Pinaud

These are shampoos that seem to come from two different worlds. The Nancy Boy is expensive, but the scent is fine, it seems to do the job intended -- yet it's the only shampoo I've ever used that doesn't leave hair squeaky-clean afterwards. I don't know if that's because it contains less of those ingredients other shampoos have that tend to strip the hair, or what the reason is. As I said, it works okay, but has anyone noticed this particular quality?

As for the Pinaud Clubman Country Club Shampoo, I've been using this on and off for a while. It comes in a huge bottle and sells for-cheap, and also does a good job of cleansing. I'm not a huge fan of the fragrance, but it fades fairly quick -- and it does leave hair squeaky-clean.

Just wanted to get some feedback on these two very different hair cleansers.

I personally don't care for the "squeaky clean" thing when it comes to hair. I'm not sure what it means, though.

If your hair looks clean when you're done and it doesn't look excessively greasy later in the day, I'd say the shampoo has done it's job. Seems to me that hair is easier to comb/style when it is not squeaking.

Here's the reason, from Nancy Boy's website:

"...our shampoo is made with premium soap, not industrial grade surfactant that strips the hair. Unlike theirs, ours is scented only with all-natural essential plant oils, including French lavender, Tunisian rosemary and Washington peppermint, not artificial laboratory "fragrance" that actually damages natural hair. Unlike theirs, our shampoo has no artificial colors or dyes."

"Our shampoo doesn't produce gigantic whorls of lather, because even though we’ve all been trained to believe foamy lather is a sign of clean hair, it's actually a sign you’re shampooing with cheap bubble bath."

I see where they're coming from. You probably do more harm than good to your hair by using cheap, detergent laden shampoo, especially if you're like some people who wash their hair every day. I too do not like my hair (or my skin) to feel "squeaky clean", because that means it is dry, and my skin/scalp will produce more oil to compensate. I haven't tried the nancy boy shampoo yet, but it is on my list. I use a similar organic shampoo that I got from whole foods, and I wash my hair at most every other day. My hair never feels dry after I wash it, and it never feels greasy at any point in the day.

I used the Nancy Boy. I liked it. I didn't like it any better than other shampoos at a lesser price. These days, I use Aveda Rosemary/Mint, which smells IMHO better (read: stronger) and works, to my uninformed hairs, just as well.

(Don't get me started on NB soap and laundry detergent, though. I simply won't give up until I convince you to buy some of each...)

I like their bath soaps and original shave cream, not their facial cleanser. Next time I feel particularly wealthy, I'll buy some more shampoo.
