What's new

Trumper's Wild Fern Cologne..

I had a bottle of WF. I sold it because it was similar to Pen's English Fern. I give Pen's the slight edge. Nevertheless, it's nice.

I also just bought a bottle of Trumper Wild Fern. I like it a lot. It is a sweet, soapy, green smell. It almost smells a little like a dish soap to me (only a little). It also reminded me of Booster Mosswood after shave when I put it on.

Very clean and green with no harsh notes = very good

I haven't tried English Fern

Yeah I'm pleased with mine now too...only 1 problem: Now I have to go buy some English or Wild Fern shave soap and some aftershave to pair my Wild Fern Cologne with.. :)

Trumpers Wild Fern is a wonderful fragrance indeed.
To be honest, I like it as I do like most GFT colognes.

I have it and I really like it. I had the opposite reaction as Andrew. After sampling both Pen's English Fern and Trumper's Wild Fern, the Trumper's slightly won. They are both good, but the English Fern had a slightly harsh and bitter note in the opening that I didn't care for as much.

It really is disappointing that Trumper's doesn't make a Wild Fern shaving soap. I really like their shaving soaps and it would be wonderful if they made it in the Wild Fern scent.

+1. I agree..I thought they made one, but upon closer inspection, they do not. So that leaves, what, just Penhaligon's god-awfully priced shave soap just to get an English Fern/Wild Fern shave soap or cream? Are there any other companies that make these in a shave soap or cream? What about aftershaves other than Pen's ?

Thanks,

X

I'm not sure what other options are out there for a Fern scented shaving soap/cream, but I know there are some and others can probably chime in on that. I will, however, say that the newer formulation of Penhaligon's soap is flat out bad. It isn't even just a decent performer that is horribly overpriced. It performs poorly and is horribly overpriced. The old stuff is great, but avoid the new stuff.

Like both Wild Fern and English Fern. But I get good longevity with EF and not with WF. So it's English Fern for me.

I too prefer the slightly stouter English Fern by Penhaligon's. I would wear Wild Fern in a heartbeat though. One of my BIGGEST gripes with Trumper is that a couple of years ago when they decided to "upgrade" their website and product line, they wrecked a couple of them too. Particularly Wild Fern. By wrecking I mean the available packaging. You used to be able to get Wild Fern in a/s splash (100 and 200ml sizes), 100ml cologne shaker top bottle, and cologne atomiser. And I may be mistaken about this but I think you could get the huge 500ml plastic refill bottles of the a/s splash as well. Don't take my word on that though. And this happened with a couple of their other fragrance suites as well. And then there is that modern looking site that sort of reminds me of something you'd find for a modern department store or something. The old site, while clunkier, reminded me of an old apothecary shop. Old timey look pages and just a more traditional look and feel. I love Trumper fragrances but I dislike it that the only way to get Wild Fern now is a 50ml atomiser. If the a/s splash was still available I would have a bottle for sure. In fact, I have thought more than once of contacting one of those custom perfumers and seeing if they could not dupe an English/Wild Fern clone for me using the best essential oils. Just stouter in the edt version than Trumper or Penhaligon's and of course, a good a/s splash to go with it.

Regards, Todd

Wild Fern and Spanish Leather are my top picks for the Trumpers colognes. However, I find that the WF doesn't last nearly as long as Spanish Leather on me. 4 hours tops. Looks like I'll have to give Pen's EF a try.

I would own a shaker for either A/S or cologne if they would pony up, but it seems those options are gone.

I was surprised that I wasn't overwhelmingly in favor of EF over WF. I like them both. EF does start off strong with a bitter, oily kind of Lavender scent. It is however more concentrated and takes time to open up. So, for the hotter weather coming up, i'm really looking forward to wearing Penhaligon's all day.

It also reminded me of Booster Mosswood after shave when I put it on.

BINGO! I just published a review on Boosters Mosswood and had the exact same thought. The two together are sublime. Glad I'm not the only one that saw (smelled, rather) the connection! It's a great way to tell somebody who is familiar with one scent what the other one's like. :thumbup1:

[I don't know if it is legal to say this here, but] The Shave Den has some in-house produced Pennhaligon English Fern-type soap.
