What's new

Truefitt & Hill Sandalwood cologne

I was able to test this, and my girlfriend really enjoyed it on me. Anyone else care for it? How does it last? At $75 a bottle, I want to make a wise decision. I was able to find the BB13 coupon code at T&H website and it makes it $66 plus postage.

What other products from them are good? I have no experience with the company.

Thank you gentlemen.

By all accounts, the creams are wonderful. The soaps are crap...avoid those. You can find a deal on a brush every so often, too. Their brushes used to be rebranded Rooneys. Not sure who makes them anymore.

I've never tried the Sandalwood cologne, but I did get a sampler of their colognes about 5 years back. I remember enjoying Freshman, Grafton (my favorite), and Spanish Leather. But the longevity was lacking.

I think longevity seems to be the issue with their line of fragrance. But if you like it and don't mind short lived scents ten go for it.
There are much better sandalwood frags for same or less $$, imo. But everyones nose and skin is different.

Definitely get their sampler kit, which has creams, preshave oil and trial vials of the colognes. not discounted but perhaps one of the best deals around. you'll have fun testing with your girlfriend! (ah, those were the days...)

Although I have not smelled the Sandalwood scent, in general T&H is one of my favorite shaving-goods companies. The Ultimate Comfort shaving cream is my single favorite cream of any brand. The scented ranges are very nicely done, with excellent body soap, cream and a/s balm. As mentioned, the sampler pack is definitely worth a try.

T&H offer free shipping on orders over $99, so if you're already spending the bucks on the cologne, you might consider adding in a couple complementary items to take advantage of the offer. This is probably easier if you are aware of the products you like via the sampler.

What sandalwoods are worth trying?

Anything available at department stores?

I find it hard to test niche fragrances locally

If she likes it on you then what is there to figure out? Go for it. It's a bit citrussy for me, but I like it. It's very different than many other sandalwoods, but the price reflects it also. T&H is an easier to wear slap on and go type of scent.

Order samples from a few places. Aedes for example. There are some really great ones out there. Santal Noble MPG and Serge Lutens are some of my favorites.

D.R. Harris sandalwood a/s splash is very nice - a gentlemanly but assertive, old school scent. The a/s is scented nearly as strongly as a cologne.

Trumper sandalwood cologne is a more modern take, but also very nice. It smells like the Trumper sandalwood skin food, if you've smelled that, but not at all like that brand's shaving cream, shaving soap or bath soap. It would be nice if they united the line, a la T&H, although I'm sure fans of the existing cream and soap scents would carp.

I have completely given up smelling fragrances at department stores, so I am unable to recommend any you might find there. (Nordstrom used to carry T&H, but those days are gone.) They are almost all designer fragrances, blended without skill or nuance, that I find to be horribly synthetic and trendy. It's unfortunate in a way, but just like finding good shaving gear, the challenge of finding a good fragrance can be fun, and ultimately rewards you in knowing you've got something that cannot be had by just heading over to the local Nordstrom.

If longevity is an issue with me with a frag I spray a bit on my shirt or a bit more on my undershirt. This usually makes it last all day, but in some cases it changes the character a bit. I'm sure I have a T&H Sandalwood sample, I'll give it a try tomorrow.

+1 on the D.R. Harris Sandalwood.
