Trouble getting a good lather out of TBS Maca Root cream

I've tried everything; dry brush, damp brush, wet brush, add water to the bowl first, sprinkle water as I swirl, face lather.

I can't seem to get a good wet lather out of this cream. After every pass, my face feels bone dry under the cream.

Is this just a troublesome cream? TBS products seem to be quality stuff, so what gives?

Maybe some of the other members with much more experience can give you some tips, but I find that cream to be the easiest to make lather with. Just about an almond size amount of cream and a good squeeze to the brush gives me tons of lather. Don't give up on it, it's fantastic once you hit the right spot.

My experience with TBS-MR was quite different, found it to whip up a fine lather in no time.

Usually scooped out a bit of cream, a little more than almond size and started working it in my palm with a damp brush, add a little water just by dipping the tips of my brush and keep whipping until you get the lather as you like.

What brush are you using? Are you using a bowl? Too much cream/water maybe? Does the cream look dried out or similar to the tubs in the store?

My experience with TBS Maca is that it is a thirsty cream. I splash water several times into the mix when lathering.

Hmmm. That's odd. Like others who have responded I consider Maccabee Root flawless and easy to use. Face or bowl lather, I soak the brush and shake it really dry and then actually dip the tip of the bristles into the cream. Then a few swirls to distribute on my face or around the bowl and then I dip the brush tips in water and lather. Repeat the dips as needed. Works pretty much the same every time and I don't think I have gotten a bad lather out of this cream.

I know what you're talking about with regards to that dry feeling after a pass. I think it's just a property of the cream, but as long as the lather itself isn't drying before you get to it you should be fine. The only thing I would suggest is using a different brush if you have one, or buying a new one. The Body Shop brush is pretty mediocre in a lot of ways, and generating volume is one of them.

I PIF'd that brush a week after I bought it..

Interesting that your skin feels dry after a pass.. Macca Root and Speick Stick are two products that leave the nice wet, slick feeling after a pass...

My guess? (Assuming that you use a sufficient amount of cream, and don't shave with airy fluff.) You can't handle one of the ingredients and suffer from an allergic reaction. It happens. It's rare, but people have reported having problems with TBS-MC.

Do you use the same brush with other creams and get a good lather? If you do, then maybe the cream just doesn't work for you. Sometimes that happens. You can read into it further if you want, or just shrug it off as a mystery and get another cream.

If you don't get a good lather with other creams, the brush is likely the culprit.

Guys,

If you look in the Brush Forum, we have devoted 2 weeks to lathering all sorts of things with the TBS Synthetic Brush. It is Stickied and called The Brush Chronicles. Maca Root was the first cream used. The brush is a bit finicky in my hands for bowl lathering, but the following seems to work:

1. Soak brush and bowl. Shake out brush thoroughly and empty bowl.
2. Squeeze almond size dollop of cream into bowl.
3. Press the brush into the cream firmly until the bristles splay out, then mix the cream with the pressed brush for about 20 seconds. Do NOT add water yet. You should start to see lather building up the sides of the bowl.
4. Dribble about a quarter teaspoon of water into the bowl and mix well for 10-15 seconds with the splayed brush. Repeat 2-3 more times.
5. Swipe the brush across the bottom of the bowl. If it wipes clean, add a little more water and mix again. Do the swipe test and add water as needed until the bottom does not swipe clean. Then it should be ready.

Alternatively, face lather it. There is a good instructional thread from Luc in the cream forum sticky that works like a charm. I hope this helps.

I shoud've searched first.... Well just finished a shave with this cream and eventually got a great lather. I would've added more water earlier but it all worked out in the end. DFS with 1940's Tech and a 3 shave old Wilkinson Sword Classic blade. The cream was only a sample, but I will definately be picking up some more.

If you are using the synthetic brush from them you will definately need more water but you can also try using a few drops a glycerin.
