Tried some new blades - vintage Wilkinson Swords, Polsilver SIs

I recently tried a couple of new (to me) blades and thought I'd share my experiences, as well as see what you all might have to share about these particular blades.

Most-recently, I tried Polsilver Super Iridiums. I had heard and read good things about these blades, so I dropped one into my 40's Gillette SS. While the blade wasn't rough, it certainly wasn't very sharp. Not compared to the usual Feather blades I use. I noticed more stubble than usual after my WTG pass, and found myself going over areas more times than usual to mow down the hair. Because of that, I ended up with more irritation and rough stubble than usual. I can't say these blades impressed me. Perhaps it's the razor combination, but I don't think so.

I also finally took a chance and tried one of the vintage Wilkinson Sword blades I found at an antique mall. They were still sealed, and I got them for maybe $2, tops. I figured they were worth a shot.

They're the Super Sword Edge blades. (Sorry for the blurry pics. My phone's camera is... not good.)

I have to say, this blade was possibly the smoothest, sharpest, best-shaving blade I've tried so far. I love my Feather blades, but they didn't hold a candle to this blade in my Merkur slant! I could hardly tell it was shaving! I had to look for the stubble in the cream.

Now my only problem/question is: where can I find more?!? Any ideas?

Those late vintage stainless steel blades are ridiculous. I had the same reaction the first time I used one. eBay is likely your best bet for vintage blades.

If you want to try a modern blade, I find that the Gillette 7 O'Clock Super Platinum blades in the black package are pretty close to the best vintage blades.

I'll have to try those Gillettes. I've only tried the yellow ones, and wasn't overly impressed. But I'll give the black ones a try.

Have you tried the new Wilkinson Swords? If so, are they any good?

The new Wilkinson Sword blades can not hold a candle to the vintage one. Good luck trying to find the vintage as it is challenging to do and they are quite expensive.

I did find a couple of sellers on ebay with some vintage blades, but man are they expensive. 10 packs of blades for $40? No thanks. But I will definitely keep my eye open, and if I see any at an antique shop or something, I'll definitely pick them up.

I know the English-made blades are now discontinued. But I have to imagine there are some floating around out there somewhere.
