What's new

Odd to like single edge on neck, but double edge on face?

I notice recently that my sensitive neck had a great BBS with a Gem Push button coupled with Blue Star blade.

I wasn’t having the same luck on my face during the same shave, so I switched back to one of my DE’s and things went better.

I usually use DE’s but I find them to be rough on my sensitive neck, hence the trying of other razors.

Thoughts? Is this bizarre?

Bizarre? No. Unusual? Yes. A lot of people change something mid shave, especially finishing a straight shave with a DE razor. A lot of people change setting for passes or trouble spots. I am not surprised this works for you, but Gems are just not used by many. SE razors are not especially popular, and with all the different blade formats, Gem is just one subgroup.

Gem and Oneblade type razors have worked really well for me, though the injector seems like the best format for an SE blade to me. Unfortunately, the blades are quite limited. The Chick is good, but it is about the only thing in production.

Thank you for that. It’s been a long while since I’ve used one of my injectors, so I should give that I try. If I recall correctly, they are rather old. One with a swingable spring and the other with a seam in the handle. But yeah, I have some blades for that, but not many.

Hey, if you like an SE on your neck, you'd LOVE a good slant all 'round! RazoRock Wunderbar or Superslant, or Rex Konsul are superior. The PAA acrylic slants are very good & more reasonably priced, if you want to dip your toe in, so to speak.

I've been using DE razors for head shaves and then switching to a shavette razor for my sensitive lower neck area for over a year now. While tricky and requiring a bit of practice, using a shavette help me be mindful of the blade angle and pressure which went a long way to prevent irritation and ingrowns.

Hmmmm. I have a merkur 37 slant, if that’s comparable, I’ll try that just in the neck. I think I stopped using that due to not loving it on my face as a daily driver.

Somehow I thought maybe the typical blade bending from a regular DE razor was somehow a little inconsistent with what is ideal for my neck’s need for ~80 passes. That’s an exaggeration, but you get the point.

Thank you. I am unfamiliar with shavettes, but will eead up on it

If you have some right-to-left/left-to-right growth pattern, a slant works very well.👍

I like my Schick G on neck or one of the thicker de blades (personna comfort coated/Accutec or German wilkinson) in a well-clamped razor with at least a medium gap ('48 Superspeed or Goodfellas Bayonetta in my den).
Theory: My neck is one of the areas that I tend to miss WTG areas...leaving more hair to slam into ATG. So...a Me problem, but the stiffer blade probably helps. Betting on Same experience with a GEM.

Nothing hits my neck area hard with a BBS than my Alpha Spirit. That area needs a zero blade chatter kinda razor to do the job. Everything else just blows up my neck with redness and irritation. My advice to anyone is if you have a sensitive area that never gets BBS, try a Gem or AC razor. I always have the urge to sell off all my DEs after a great shave with the Spirit.
