What's new

Tried Proraso...Well, C.O. Bigelow...

My face gets really dry with many soaps (bright red cheeks) so I decided to give a cream a shot. I got a tube of C.O. Bigelow over the weekend and gave it a go. I LOVE this cream!!! For reference, I shave after my morning shower. For a pre-shave I put some Grapeseed Oil on my face. Then I squeezed a bit of the COB cream in my mug and worked up a great lather with my brush. I did a 4 pass shave and it was great!!! Only a few weepers (darn neck):angry:. I put grapeseed oil on as an after shave treatment and my face was really happy!!! :thumbup: Just thought I'd share my experience. Are there other creams that are comparable to or superior to Proraso/COB? Thanks!!!

I picked up a tube of Kiss My Face lavender and shea a couple weeks ago and prefer it over the Bigelow. My favorite though is still Headslick, but it's not very glamorous.

Is the Bigelow product the same as Proraso? It's made by Proraso so I assume it's at least similar. I've seen headslick and wondered about it...I'll give it a try someday...Thanks!!!

Some other great creams that I am currently using are:
Art of Shaving Sandalwood
Body Shop Maca Root
TOBS Mr Taylor

The COB has menthol in it, so it has that cooling sensation I love!!!
Enjoy your shaves!!! There are many more soaps and creams for you to try!!!

Proraso is an excellent cream.
In my opinion it's the best low cost cream available anywhere.
I regualrly use it at least once a week, always getting wonderful, smooth and close shaves.
Something else to try that is equal or superior to Proraso?
I give you three brands to try:
Castle Forbes;
Truefitt & Hill;
Trumpers.
These three brands listed above are the very best you can find all over the world.
Obviously, it's my opinion.

Some will say yes categorically. While I've tried several very good creams I have never taken Proraso out of my rotation. I keep using it because it's excellent and it's reasonably priced. If you like the cream find a way to fund a purchase of the pre/post, ASB and AS Splash. All are excellent product that when used together produce an outstanding shave. The only sad note is that the AS Splash's scent is not all that long lasting - but I enjoy it while it lasts.

Thanks guys!!! Great info. What do you think about the grapeseed oil? Is it safe for my badger brush? I've read good things about what it does for your skin and it makes my face feel great so I'd like to keep using it...

I love the Proraso. I just today shaved my head with it, great stuff! I alternate between proraso cream and Tabac soap and I don't know which I like better.

There is nothing like Proraso, but I agree with everything Marco said.

Proraso is the best low cost cream, but Truefitt & Hill, Trumper, and Castle Forbes are even better (along with Nancy Boy)!

Why choose, enjoy them both at the same time! One of my favorite combos is actually mixing some Bigelow/Poraso cream with Tabac soap. Give it a whirl :thumbup:

If you want more "tried and true barbershop grade" type creams, I would check out Erasmic, La Toja, LEA, and Barbon. A lot of guys also dig brands like Musgo Real, Omega, Godrej, and Ingrams, etc.

Arko is another inexpensive cream but I would place it a notch below Proraso. Bigelow in the tube and Proraso in the tube are exactly the same...only the logo and packaging is different.

I love C.O. Bigelow and it continues to be my favorite although my experience is rather limited. Of course, TOBS is wonderful too!

woa I can do this? Oh man this is gonna be so sweet! SHould I load the brush good with tabac, and then squirt some proraso in the bowl and then lather everything together in there?

My favorite is also Proraso - throw a splash or 2 of Osage rub in the bowl/mug and you have yourself a cooling menthol party on your face.
You might want to try Musgo Real - I have found it to be even more moisturizing than Proraso.......

I just ordered some Tabac Soap and I will try this!!! I've never used Tabac before so I'm very excited about getting it. I'm timing my shaves with it's arrival and will skip a day of shaving just so I can use it when I get it!!! I feel weird getting excited to go shave...

Proraso is the AK47 of creams! I was in between passes today and I dropped my loaded brush into my sink water, I just ran it around the bowl a few times and it was good to go. I thought for sure it would have too much water but teh Proraso prevailed. :thumbup:

I bought some C.O. Bigelow a few weeks ago.

It works well, but I don't really care for the fragrance. I use it occasionally, but it's not in my regular rotation.

Maybe I will like it more when the heat hits here in Texas.
