tricks to using a TTO

I just can't get it right !

8 months into DE wet shaving, I had a BBS on the 4th attempt with a futur, a month later, BBS 2nd time with a slanthammer and a feather, 2 weeks later, BBS 1st try and few weepers with a 12c OC and feather, yet using iridiums or feathers in a TTO, best case a DFS with irritation on the under chin area . . .

it never seems to feel as smooth, as the others . . .

any tips on what I should be doing, and from my perception the head seems bigger and less manouverable than the futur . . .

I stopped using TTOs (gave one away, but still have three) as soon as I discovered the 39c and open combs. These razors like me.
In my experience so far, nothing gives me a closer more comfortable shaves as these (with pretty much any blade, except the Irridium. Irridiums don't like me).

Of course, everyone is different. I don't think you have anything to worry about. I'm perfectly happy living without TTOs.

Don't use the TTOs if you like the shaves better from other razors. Keep them for display or send them to me, I think I still have some display room.:wink2:

Hmm.... What type of TTO?

Do you need to adjust your blade angle after using fixed heads?

From a Gillette Adjustable point of view, I find that using a fierce blade will generally give fierce razor burn if I take too many passes. I run wide open for the WTG passs and turn down for the XTG, down further fo the ATG.

With a sensitive face like mine, 4 passes just for the sake of them, is a problem not a solution.

Check your angle and make each pass count.

TTO? If you're talking SuperSpeed, I like them because they don't give me a BBS shave. I actually prefer a CCS, but on a good day can get a DFS with one. If I want or need a closer shave I go with a different razor.

Yeah! Which TTO? Isn't the high end Merkur adjustable a TTO?

If you're talking the Gillette super speed, they want a different technique. The simplest way to describe it is how to lay the blade on your face. With the gillette, you lay the safety bar on your face and roll until the blade touches your face. With the Merkurs, you lay the head on your face and roll until the blade touches your face. From there, you need to adjust the rest of the shave. They're really different, through, and I've taken to switching off between them for different areas and passes, and am just starting to play with different blade combinations and what not.

:biggrin1: It confused me too at first, but you get used to it rather quick. This will help. There's really only a few that get used over and over again, BBS, DFS, CCS, TOBS, TTO and the most important SWMBO.
