Travel Shave in 'Nawlins

Made it in to New Orleans yesterday and had my first travel shave today.:biggrin1:

The set-up:

Merkur 38C loaded w/ a Voskhod Blade

Omega Baby Pro Boar brush

QED Bathtub Gin shave stick

A/V aftershave

After months of using only the Muhle R41 Grande as my main razor, it was a revelation going back to the Merkur 38C. The Sledgehammer is a well balanced razor and there was no relearning curve to overcome. I kept looking at the razor because it did not seem as if there was an actual blade in it at all.

I'm use to the sound of the Muhle throughout the shave, so shaving in near silence was different. After 2 passes (WTG & XTG) I was BBS. Normally, I would need another pass reach that condition in the past, but shaving w/ an open comb has definitely enhanced my technique.

Also, the water here is much softer than my home water in Maryland. The Merkur is as shiny as if it hadn't been used at all. The lather that I built w/ Baby Pro took hardly any effort, was thick and lubricious- plus the scent is great!

Looking forward to tomorrow's shave-I have totally pigged out on fresh shrimp, stuffed crab, gumbo, alligator tail, boudin, and beer. I'll sleep all that off and start afresh in the morning.

Nice shave. What makes that razor so quiet? I have only tried a few razors, but have not noticed that difference.

I may be so used to the Muhle and it's siren song of sliceatude that the Merkur's song may be quieter.

My daughter took me and the wife to a place she knows-I'll haqve to ask her the name as I forgot already and she's in orientation until this evening.

Missed a day, but her's the set-up:

Merkur 38C + Voskhod blade (2)

Strop Shoppe Black Tie SS

VDH Boar

Mennen Cool Spice

SWMBO watched me throughout the entire shave and then kept the faceturbating up for my head and face. She constantly compliments me on the condition of my skin and I gget numerous double takes when I present my ID-all a result of wetshaving properly!

I lathered on the puck for 45 seconds and then built it up on my face by returning to the water in the sink. I ended up with another thick, lubricious lather that did not take loads of time. i had enough for 2 head passes( WTG, ATG) and 3 face passes (WTG, XTG, ATG). I do believe that onceI return to maryland, I will have to try my shaves with distilled water and see what happens. "Soft" water makes it ridiculously easy to build lather.

Plus, having 2 boar brushes on hand in my travel kit allows for 1 to dry out in between uses.
