Travel kits.....

Happy holidays everyone. I am curious what kind of travel kits you might use when taking your safety razor along for the ride. I don't do alot of traveling, but when I do, I do not want to settle for a cartidge razor.

Thanks in advance!

Normally I wouldn't carry quite this much gear, but since I wasn't flying I thought I would relax. I have a Muehle R89 and a Merkur 45 in a hard eyeglass case, along with a polishing rag to keep them from rubbing each other. I also included a couple of loose blades: Personna medical and barber, plus a pack of NOS Gillette Bleue. My normal travel brush is an Omega 10066 in a plastic bottle, but since it's the holidays I also brought a Rooney 3/1/S. I have some KMF lavender in a lotion bottle, plus sticks of Speick, DR Harris Arlington, and PSGT. Another set of small bottles contain witch hazel and bay rum. I also included a My Nick Is Sealed, but haven't had to use it yet.

The backup system is a sensor handle with a couple of cartridges.

One of my favorite razors is my Gillette fat-handled tech, which comes apart into 3 pieces. I already have an Altoids tin in my shave kit that holds Q-tips, a few band-aids, etc. The razor pieces fit in there fine along with a few blades and are well cushioned by the rest of the contents. I bring a shave stick and either my Vulfix travel brush in its case or an alternate brush in a pill bottle for protection and just face lather. Round it out with a travel size aftershave balm, and I'm good to go... I'm a dedicated shower shaver, so I usually bring a small travel mirror, too. The one I like is Coghlan's camping mirror. Amazon has it for about $5. If I want to bring the Fat Boy, I'll usually just stuff it in a small sock and put that in the Dopp kit -- plenty of protection.

Undoubtedly, YMMV...

Cheers!

I hate travelling, but if I did, I would certainly bring

My Merkur Futur
a box of Merkur Platinum blades
a little flask with almond oil for prep and after shave smoothness
Edwin Jagger sandalwood shaving soap
my silvertip (I only have one)

)

I just purchased a vintage German travel razor from a B&B member, and it is my new favorite travel razor. However, i do have a fear that some crazed TSA agent will confiscate it from me. Other than that, i bring along some Sharks and AOS brush, lavender soap and aftershave.

One thing i love about about this board, it's been easier to find the shops offering sample packs. Samples (like the Truffit & Hill pack) make great soap and aftershave wonderfully portable.

I take a 3 piece razor, either a ball end tech or a travel tech with a puck of soap in a used plastic container and a brush that I put in an asparin or pill bottle , depending on what size brush I take. I take the razor apart , I put in in the bottle with the brush.

Current travel kit:

Merkur gold slant (or occasionally an HD) in leather travel case
Enough Feather blades for the trip, but a box usually handles it fine.
EJ Seabuckthorn (smaller travel puck)
Cade AS (splash, not balm)
B&B 2008LE brush (it's a little fella!:biggrin1:)

The whole thing goes into a leather zipper hangup pouch that also has soap, shampo, brush, toothpaste&brush.

I keep toying with the idea of throwing the Shavemac 30mm into a large pill box but I'd hate to loss THAT with the luggage:001_rolle But that brings up a question ... When flying, you you guys carry-on everything but the blades? I may do that this time. Usually everything just goes into the checked bag.

My most recent trip I brought my Muehle R89, some Merkur blades, a simpson's case brush (which I recently purchased as my official travel brush) and T&H Trafalgar shaving cream. However, since I typically do not check luggage, I still have my cartridge razor. I'm debating whether or not it's worth buying blades every time I travel. Unfortunately, non-cartridge blades are prohibited for carry on. :thumbdown

I have the dovo leather case from thesuperior shave.com

in it i carry

Murkur 34C
Omega Travel Boars hair brush
Personna Red blades (quantity will depend on how long im gone for)

i also typically carry a tube of whatever cream i'm using at that point.

Outstanding shave on the go.

Been doing a huge amount of travel of recent months with work, it's given me lots of practice. I have a classic Samsonite two pocket wash bag that has seen me halfway around the world (almost). The large pocket holds my usual toiletries (deodorant, soap, shampoo, conditioner, brush, hair product (I could go on but I feel girly enough now))cream and men-u boar brush. The small pocket holds my 3 piece Merkur classic with blade in (yes, blade in!) and a pack of five feathers (enough for two and a half weeks generally), toothbrush and paste. My one concession to the razor and blade is to wrap them in tissue but that's it.

No damage, no scratching, no blunt blades... Good practical travel. For a fifteen year old bag that's travelled 10+ times a year via car, train, boat and plane it's done remarkably well.

That said I'm eyeing off a Dovo leather holder at present.

I picked up a little Coach cosmetic case with a built in mirror on the Bay-its about 6x3x2". I put a Feather travel razor in its case with spare blades, a shaving soap stick in a medicine bottle, a Wee Scot brush in another medicine bottle drilled for ventilation, a small fillable atomizer (bed, bath and beyond, 2 for about $3)filled with AS/cologne splash, and a small squeeze bottle filled with AS moisturizer balm, and a small size styptic pencil. It all fits nicely and I can toss it into my big Dopp kit when not going by air. I have a similar set up with a Power Fusion and spare cartridges when flying.

My shave kit is set up in a way that I really dont have to change anything If I need to travel. I have a case that came with a Remington Electric Razor I got when I first started shaving. Its large enough to hold my Weishi Razor in the case (which has a mirror, cleaning brush, and blades in it), styptic pencil, extra pack of blades, a few cotton pads, and tube of Avon Wild Country a/s balm. Now, If I were traveling, I would probably just grab a puck of soap (like the VDH that comes in the plastic case) and just lather from that. Although, I could fit a tube of cream in my case, considered its small enough. Ive never traveled with my DE kit though...I'll put it on the to-do list.
