Tool roll = straight razor holder

I've been thinking about a way to keep a few straights at home without taking up heaps of space but was struggling to come up with something when I stumbled on a nice looking leather tool roll that looks like it would be ideal. They have slots that would be just the right size to keep a straight in and roll up so they're pretty compact.

There's a free idea for you all.

I use a leather chisel roll for my straights that aren't sitting in the bathroom. I looked for it after seeing Luc's artist's brush holder.

The leather is a bit stiff, but it rolls up neatly :001_smile It's suede so the pockets won't damage scales. The only thing to watch is that the roll is too wide so the flap doesn't cover the razors, you need to just lay it flat or stand it on the pocket end.

Nice but you can only have 8 straights in there... :tongue_sm

We use Sawzall blades by the case at my job and in one of those came a canvas roll for the blades. So i have 3 straights in a Makita sawzall blade roll at work. Does a really good job of protecting them in my luggage while i'm back at home. Sure beats paying a couple hundred bucks for one.

Just a comment; some qualified knife people I know say not to store knives in the sheath because some leathers react with humidity and will fuzz rust the blades in a short time.

Here's a nice Australian chisel roll made out of heavy duty swag canvas.

It's OK, it's a Buy It Now

Something like that would be ideal I think.

The auction says it's handmade so it might be possible to ask for a longer roll or same size compartments as the ones on the left might be too narrow and the one on the right might fit 2 razors...

The leather on metal can cause some interesting results, like green goo on the brass pins and I suspect could cause some rust or spotting of the steel. I have an old baber's razor roll. Leather on the outside, but the inside is like a velvet.

Everytime I search for Rolls Razor on eBay, this listing comes up. It is a cloth 7 day straight razor roll. Seems a bit pricey to me... I suspect you could have something nicer stitched up by a local seamstress: Razor Roll

In art stores supplies you can find roll for brush made of canvas or water proof material , but if you want a nice razor holder I recommend classicshaving.com have a good variety of razor holder

I usually keep a couple ready to go in the bathroom (in an old mug). If When I get more razors, I'll get another roll! :thumbup1:

I've been using mine for a couple of months with no obvious issues...although I do make sure they're completely dry and lightly oiled before putting them away.

I've found another couple of things that you can put straights in.

The first is a jewellery roll made for watches or bracelets.

That first one is not bad actually. 14 straights? That's good! Where did you find it? Who makes it?

Hello everyone I'm Greg brand new to this forum. I saw this and was wondering if anyone ever found or made something? I've had a few straights over the years (6) enough to need a roll to keep them in. And well 8 more coming next week , and if we are being honest. I was thinking of having my girlfriend teach me to sew something up to keep them in. She made me a hanging holder for my zippo's out of canvas and (Jewelry) display velvet. I'll post some photo's when she is finished if you all want?

I’d say anything but leather can work. I have a leather roll that I’ve traveled with on occasion, but leather can get funky. I have a single leather sleeve that got fuzzy with mold in a dresser drawer in my bedroom (with AC/climate control, but fairly high humidity).

I keep mine in silicone impregnated sleeves, in a 20pc humidor in that dresser at the house, and rubber band the razors into their sleeves to travel these days.

Not sure if anyone pointed this out about leather, but you need to insure it’s vegetable tanned leather not chrome tanned. Chrome tanned leather will react with any metal it touches over time causing corrosion. Any leather product that doesn't specify thats its been vegetable tanned will be chrome tanned.

My wife made this on the sewing machine a few years back after I said please, does the job. There's some variety in the widths which is nice.
