Tool list for razor making and restoration

I would like to try my hand at making a razor and am wondering what tools I would need to get started. Right now, I am just a hobbyist but don't like to waste money on cheap tools that fall apart, on the other hand I don't need top shelf stuff either.

So the questions are

• What tools do I need to make razors and scales?
  
• Where are good sources to buy the above tools?
  
• What tradeoffs can be considered, and what tools most important and shouldn't be skimped on?

I think you are not getting many responses because of the statement of "making razors"

If you are talking about actually making the Steel part you are getting into a more specialized area ...

If you are talking about making scales and polishing the metal that is a bit easier....

I figure it's more of cutting a blank and going from there. Steel is readily available for this purpose and you can get any grade you want from carbon steel to stainless to damascus. I assume building a blade and scales requires many of the same tools used in Knife making. Some sort of belt grinder, a band saw, a polisher of some kind, a forge for hardening, dremels, ...

Most of this same equipment would be good to have for restoration, but I assume you can get away with a nice Dremel set and a cheap table sander from Sears to do most everything needed to polish the blade and make new scales.

I have built black powder kit guns as a kid. I built complete stock sets from scratch for blackpowder rifles and grips for revolvers using nothing but a skill saw and sand paper. I'm older now and would want better tools, so I am wondering what is really needed to start with.

Yes yer right and you have a near complete list above...

Really most of the work on razors is fairly light duty...

A 2x72 inch belt grinder would do most everything you might want, and I would add a buffer to the list you have, no more than 1725 rpm...
