Took my Progress apart to clean it... Crabby shave afterwards?

Hi Guys,

Took my merkur progress aprt this morning to give it a clean, I put it back together loaded up with a Gillette Bleue Extra and got a really crap shave from it. I had some trouble putting the razor bck togeter and used tape covered needle nose pliers to squash the "Split ring" back to get it into the tube (very gently, not enough pressure to permanently bend it.).

Could I have a dud blade or have I fubar'd my razor? The blade doesn't line up one side, but does the other, I have always guessed this was a blade/razor characteristic (as seemingly it only does it with thin blades... odd), Wilkinson, Merkur etc. no problem, feather, etc. one side is about 0.05 mm out, it's almost impossible to see, but it is there...

Anyways any advice appreciated,
Regards,
Tom

I've owned a Progress for over a year and It doesn't line up correctly even after assembling it according to the alignment marks on the head and base. I don't think you have a dud blade. I think the Progress is the problem. I still get great shaves with mine even though it thinks its a Slant Bar...

Thanks guys, yep the marks line up, it just an unusually rubbish shave, perhaps it was me rushing? Will try again tomorrow and see if it is better.

The only purpose of the split ring to keep the knob piece from falling out of the handle cylinder when the head of the razor is removed. So no, you didn't fubar your razor.

Thanks god :D

And with regard to the marks, I have 'blackened' them so I always know I've lined them up.
