What's new

Today was a "Special Shave" day

So today I had my ceremony for my retirement from the USAF after 22 yrs of service. 1958 ball tech for my face, Schick Krona for my melon. Personna lab blues in both. Stirling's Scots Pine for soap. Spanish fig and nutmeg to calm it all down. Of course I was the sharpest man in the room for at least a few hours!

I got the idea to post this thread after reading another. The poster described his g'pas razor was first used on his wedding day.

If this isn't redundant of another thread, post a specific shave that was special to you and why.

Now I just need my veteran badge :)

So far, my most memorable shave was about a month ago. I have essential tremors and shaving with a DE requires concentration, the right gear, and maybe a little luck. However, losing 50 pounds and few other life-affirming changes had reduced the severity of my tremors, and I had just discovered the Personna Lab Blue and was encouraged by the close, smooth shave. And so I attempted my first three pass shave. It went without a hitch. Not BBS, but no blood, not even any burn. Since then I make three passes pretty often, and it just gets better every time.

Thank you for your service and congratulations on your passage to the next stage of your life.

Outstanding! Congratulations on your retirement and many thanks for your 22 years of service.

Glad to hear the shave went well, too.

Congrats on your retirement! I don't have any "special shaves" performed on myself, but I will always remember giving my son his first shave (straight razor) about six months back. It was:

Mike's Barbershop
Dovo stainless / micarta
Drugstore branded witch hazel
Nivea sensetive aftershave balm

Congratulations on a great tenure and a well-deserved retirement!

I would say my most memorable and "special" shave was actually my first DE shave. I didn't dive into wet-shaving without doing my due diligence, research, and getting the right products. I purchased an Art of Shaving lavender starter kit for $20 from a store called Ulta and took my time. I had a Merkur HD, loaded with a Wilkinson Sword blade (keep in mind, I was a newbie), and the Art of Shaving pre/cream/post. I went slow, remembered what I learned on B&B regarding mapping my beard and shaving accordingly, being careful not to apply much/any pressure and to let the blade do the work. I would say I received a DFS shave my first time and surprisingly didn't get one weeper. Sure, I have had them since then, but for a first timer, it really pleased me and invited me back for more. Many razors, soaps, creams, blades, and brushes later...I am over 2 years in the wet-shaving game and loving every shave of it!

Thank you Sirs for the well wishes. It's almost like I had 2 lives in the AF. Pre and post 9/11. I didn't intend this post to be all about me as I try not to be overly self-bloviating. I was a special day all around, but that smooth shave sure set the tone for a great day. Happy memorial day to all the vets who have served their Country!
