To those who love a big brush. what loft to use with a 30mm knot?

So I have a WD 30mm set at 54 and like it pretty well. I'm about to get a custom handle made (need something to hold on to!) and have a TGN finest 30 put in it but am undecided about what loft to use. So to anyone who has used or likes big brushes...what loft do you like?

i don't use large brushes, but what are you using it for: face or bowl lathering? This would determine the length of loft you would want to use. Good luck.

Claus's numbers jive with me...

whatever you choose you may want to sink it a bit deeper to give it more backbone, if you wish.

I plan on scuttle lathering most of the time. 55 about where I was thinking would be a good number to start with.

I like shorter lofts, but I set mine at 55mm and its a great brush with a little loft. At 50mm it was much more scrubby, but I have several other brushes tuned like that, so I opted for something a bit taller.

THIS might help.

Subjective/YMMV just as the decision on big versus small knots. I have a 28mm knot and 57mm loft M&F that I love. Other big brush users consider 57mm to be too much. You need to decide based on your preferences rather than polling for random opinions. If you don't know what your preference is then you'll have to discover it via first hand experience.

Still subjective/YMMV. I face lather and, as I said, the loft on my brush is 57mm. Many face latherers seem to prefer shorter lofts. However, that doesn't mean that all (or the OP) do.

The last couple brushes I've done, I set with a clear waterproof glue that allowed me to twist out the knot and adjust it.

It would be unfortunate to have a fine 30mm knot that isn't set "just right" for your preference.

Thanks for the link. I had seen that at one point but couldn't find it again. I'm thinking that seems to be the route to go for sure.
