Tips for Oahu - Waikiki Beach?

We are going to the Waikiki Beach area next week for a wedding. At this point we are not planning on renting a car since we have some family that live there and can take us around for a few days of our trip. We do need to find our own transportation for a few of the days though. Does anyone have any tips on things to do and must see locations? We are staying a block from Kuhio Beach I think. Thanks.

Ono Hawaiian Foods, and bring me back some khalua pork and poi (yes I like poi) Hanuma Bay for snorkeling with the fishes and turtles. The view from Diamond Head is fantastic but I hear they've added lights to the tunnel climb so that's going to take part of the fun out of it. Nothing like hiking up a mountain in a tunnel with people going both directions in the dark.

Head over to Sunset beach on the north shore, the surf is fantastic and fun to play in and if you time it right you can watch the crazy surfers, there's also a fantastic burger place if only I could remember the place.

A MUST go place even though the look of the truck may scare you off is giovannisshrimptruck.com Holy crap their shrimp scampi is to die for.

I have a bunch more places for you to go to but it would turn into a TLDR post. I think the best way is just bring me along and I'll be your personal tour guide. It's a sacrifice but it's a price I'm willing to pay because you're such a nice guy.

The beaches on this island are simply incredible. Kailua has beautiful white sands and a breeze that brings out wind surfers and others. In fact, every beach is wonderful. Here is a good guide for you to read over.

Enjoy. I haven't been back to Hawaii in a number of years but went there both on business and pleasure. Love the place.

Bruddah,

I would rent a car for some liberty of action.

Fo da kine grinds on Oahu, no go Giovani's, too much line. Go to the Shrimp Shack (a yellow van on the Kamehameha highway headed north from Kaneohe in Punaluu - www.shrimpshackoahu.com).

Best restaurant on the island is Alan Wong's on South King Street (take a cab, make a reservation, and bring a fair amount of coin).

Buzz's Original Steakhouse in Kailua (Buzz's Lanikai, not Pearl City), in front of Kailua Beach Park is a must. The steak won't be the best you've ever had, but it is an institution. Make a reservation.

Matsumoto's Grocery in Haliewa for the best shave ice.

Rainbow Drive Inn in central Honolulu for a plate lunch.

Haute Dog in International Market Place for crazy hotdogs.

Mariner's Ridge if you want a beautiful hike that gives you a view that cannot be bought. It is exposed, so make sure to wear a ton of sunblock.

Cinnamon's Kailua for the best breakfast/brunch on the island.

Crepes No Ka Oi (No Ka Oi is "the best" in Hawaiian) in Kailua for the second best breakfast/brunch.

Rent a canoe and paddle out to the Mokalua Islands (Mokes) from Kailua Beach Park.

Kalapawai Market at Kailua Beach Park - one of the greatest places on earth.

If you're in to tattoos, either 808 in Kaneohe or Soul Signature in Honolulu.

Best Poke - Tamura's Wine and Liquor (I'm not joking). Various locations on the island.

Best Aloha shirts: Kahala Shirt Co. in Ala Moana Mall. The only shirts still produced in Hawaii. Beautiful and classic - http://www.kahala.com

Any day on Lanikai beach is a day well-spent.

If you need anything else, just PM me. Despite my location, my home is Kailua, Keolu Hills.

A hui hoa,
Mike

Da Bus is great.

Hanauma Bay is nice.

If you enjoy a nice hike, climb Diamond Head or up to Manoa Waterfall.

It's been years since I've been there, but Duke's had the greatest view, the best mai tais and great breakfast and lunch.

If you get the chance check out The Polynesian Cultural Center. I think it is close to Laie. You will love the evening show.

I highly recommend La Mariana Sailing Club! 50 Sand Island Access Rd. Its a very old school place. The original owner Annette would buy up all the decor from closing tiki themed places to decorate hers. Food is good and drinks are fantastic! It is located in a warehouse district but once inside you have great views of the marina and ocean. One of my wife and I's favorite places. Originally opened in 1955.
