tips for chops anyone?

so i grew out some wicked chops down to my jawline and out to my chin. the only problem is when i do more than a single wtg pass i shave into them and have to "fix" them. its getting old building such nice lather and going through all the prep as when i was clean shaven to just use it once. it leaves me feeling unsatisfied, like when you bite into the burger or whatever youve been craving all week and its cold in the middle. so i thought id tap in to the vast pit of shaving knowledge piled in these threads for my solution. so how do all of you with facial hair achieve the atg pass without shaving off more than you intend? i can do the xtg on my neck but its out of the question on my cheeks so thats all good, i just cant go atg to get the rest of my mug bbs like i used to. :frown: anything youve guys got is welcome, im getting tired of scratching my neck and it scratching back.

What's your setup?

ive got a 1960 fatboy and a 40s superspeed, personna reds, ive been using toms of maine calendula shave cream lately with my badger brush. prep is modest, wash, preshave lotion, lots of hot water. the hot towel here and there when ive missed a shave or two. nothing too fancy.

i keep about a half to 1 cm between my goate and side burns(1nch thick down to bottom of earlobe) and my razor on atg. After the pass, i simpply wet my face, and swirl whatver lather excess lather is on my face and proceed to do detail work with a straight or shavette, simple because the thiner profile allows for more visibility. Right at the edge might never get bbs smooth, but its better than sawing an inch off your facial hair every day. I can also edge straight lines with a safetey razor.

What part of the chops are you having issues with? I've got sideburns that go all the way down to my jawline, but I don't have mine growing down towards my chin at all.

I really don't have any problems shaving around them at all... I do enjoy cutting them off and letting them re-grow every 2-3 weeks.
