Timor Blades

Hi Guys,

Has anyone tried Timor blades?

They are Solingen made (German) blades and I acquired a box full last month. I've been trying them with:

Eclipse
Fat Boy
Vintage Slant
#58

and in every case I'm getting a really comfortable and close shave.

Not sure if the Timors are available in the USA, but have any of you guys tried them?

The first time I ever heard of them. Do you know who makes them?

They seem to be rather new to the market, I keep finding them in online shops that definitely haven't stocked them before.

I've seen mention of Timor Straight Razors - so it could be the same company? They seem to have been around as long as Merkur.

The batch that I bought was the 1st I've seen of these.

Dave, I just went and ordered a pack of 10. It seems there are more blade manufacturers left in Germany than I thought.

Interesting, I didn't think that there would be enough market place for more manufacturers. I guess DE shaving is more popular than at first blush. Certainly, it's more popular in Asiatic nations but perhaps there's still a strong following in Europe, at least stronger than I thought.

If they're anything like souplex, I have a feeling that I'll like them.

A pack of ten arrived today and immediately won first price for nicest cover. I'll try them tomorrow morning in a Slant.

I keep on wondering whether these are rebranded Merkurs (which are in itself rebranded I think since I really doubt Dovo makes their own blades) since they come in a similar package. And they are almost similar expensive.

I know the 10 bucks Timor DE is a rebranded Treet Starline from Pakistan; anybody tried one of those?

The printing on the package is über-retro cool btw!

Sorry, I didn't mean to!!

But since I think nobody in Germany will start a new DE-blade factory they have to come from a place that was there before Timor came along...

Secondly I rather like Merkur blades (actually more so than their razors) so this was never meant as a negative remark. But forget about my thinking and let us hear your verdict; I certainly am curious.

Edit: I checked the Giesen & Forsthof website again and the blades are 'eisgehärtet und teflonisiert' which sounds like made by Medyna (Souplex) actually...(sorry Nils; I just can't help myself)

Well, Souplex is definitely a possibility: My first thought this morning was: "shaves like a Souplex". The blade doesnt seem to be quite as thick as the Souplex, but I didn't bother to check (hell, not at 5:30 in the morning!). The shave was good: close and comfortable. At least in a Slant, the blade works well

13 hours later, I'm actually pretty impressed. The shave was somewhat rushed, and I paid with more bite from the AS than I'm accustomed to; but I'm still socially acceptable, and my face felt very good all day. This was only one shave, mind you. I'll try the HD tomorrow and will keep you posted.

The least we expect is that when you test a blade for the benefit of this community you take your time to do it properly!!

Back to the sink with you and get it right this time; we want reliable data!

Interesting find Nils!! And yes they do look supercool.

Do you happen to know who was the owner of the Apollo brand? Maybe rights have been bought by Giesen & Forsthof but it is a bit strange that only the picture and not the famous brand name has been used.
