What's new

This has taken awhile

From the time I first joined B&B until now I've seen my technique improve so many times over that I can't count the times. So many things have come together now that shaving is really an enjoyable, special experience, to be looked forward to having.

The one thing that I find rather elusive is the BBS shave. Oh, to be sure a BBS shave is had quite often, but often at the expense of something else. By that I mean the extra time required sometimes, the few and far between nick, and of course the sometimes experienced razor burn. All of these mentioned things have been known to happen in the quest of the BBS shave.

This has led me to wonder why? In all reality what is wrong with a DFS? And why stretch the DFS any further trying for the BBS, and taking the chance of experiencing any of the mentioned extra time, nicks, or razor burn?

It seems to me, IMHO, that the difference between a BBS, and a DFS, is so minimal that there is nothing at all wrong with stopping at a DFS.

I'll take the BBS if they happen along the way of course, but if a DFS shave serves all of ones needs, I think that that is enough. Any members agree with me? :001_rolle :ouch1:

I fully agree.

I would rather have a close, comfortable, irritation free shave, rather than a BBS shave, but additional irritation because of it.

I also think the difference between a DFS, and a BBS will only be noticed by yourself, and perhaps your SO.

If you are going after a BBS shave, because you think others will notice, you are wasting your time.

Great advice. As a newbie, I will definitely have to keep this mind.

I enjoy chasing the perfection of it - nothing sweeter than when you catch it.

Its a war my friends, me and my equipment vs my face and hair!

I maintain the the BBS is not something that you should seek. Rather, it is the natural outcome of great prep and excellent technique. As you gain experience, you'll find that BBS shaves 'just happen' and become routine.

And you're right, there's nothing wrong with a DFS.

DFS is what I go for. Like everybody else, I say don't mess with it if you're getting a close comfortable shave every time.
