What's new

There's still bargains to be had.

An ebay seller had 2 straights for sale. Both were listed as Antique Straight Edge Razor in original case. The pictures were quite small and unless you scrolled down through all the terms and conditions and other stuff that sellers seem to put in their listings these day you would have missed these.

Razor reads ??le? Cut Co, Olean, New York

So I'm guessing that it's something like a Union Cutlery Co from NY. It looks in pretty good condition. Either a 5/8 or 6/8 with a round tip. Minimal hone wear and nothing that a run on a buffer won't fix. Not bad for $4.45

The second razor again had the important info buried deep down in the listing. Razor reads: Wade & Butcher for Barbers use

A Wade and Butcher Barbers Use razor with notch. Again minimal hone wear and a very tidy looking blade. It's got a broken scale but they're easy to replace. It looks a good size blade, probably 7/8. Again, a run on the buffer and I reckon the blade will come up like new. This one was more expensive and cost me $36.

With $5 postage for both razors to my US PO Box, I reckon it's $45.45 well spent.

Those are both great buys. Right now I'm working on an old early 1800s Sheffield wedge I picked up for about $20. Great shape for it's age. Looked like crap in the auction pictures. Sometimes you just need to take a chance.

I find most of my good deals at small town second hand or antique shops,
the small mom and pop shops seem more willing to dicker on prices.

Thrift-shops & the likes are my favorite.
Speaking of thrift-shops...
I pass by several on my way home from work.
Just this afternoon I got the urge to do a little poking around, stopped outside one, walked in & 10 minutes later I walked away with a Heljestrand MK31. Ivory scales, original box.
Tarnished, but no rust, no nicks, flawless scales.
The owner smiled when I handed him a 50-kr note, without me trying to haggle the price down first.
"Poor sucker" he must have thought, "buying that piece of dirty steel for 50 kronors."

Oh, by the way, 50 SEK is 7.09 USD

May we see this razor? I'm quite interested to see what it looks like.

And to OP; sorry for the hi-jack :blushing:

Your scores weren't bad either.
The W&B Barbers use are fantastic shavers & a thrill to use.
