What's new

There's "Shave Ready" and than there's "Paco Sharp"

Being new to straights, I started with a "sight-unseen" but wanted a couple of other low cost SRs to develop my skills (skills, I should acknowledge, that not only remain a distant hope but are increasingly elusive). I was having real difficulty with the sight-unseen but was getting ok shaves with both a new 6/8 Dovo Bismarck (not really fitting the "lower-cost" criteria) and a really sweet razor from Bob Keyes, who couldn't have been more helpful. But then a razor showed up that I had purchased from Brian. It's nothing to look at and was priced accordingly, but oh my what an edge he put on this thing. I felt like I was holding a Feather DE blade in my hand. The shave was quite unlike any of my (admittedly limited) prior shaves. Incredibly smooth with fantastic beard reduction. It's a spike point, which I was a bit nervous about as I felt I could have easily opened up a blowhole somewhere on my cheek with it. No cuts, nicks or irritation but my second pass lather had a lovely pink tinge to it from assorted weepers. Of course those were all about my technique as this blade really allowed me to complete the shave in a reasonable amount of time (in other words, less time than it takes to do a heart transplant). This was my first truly DFS with a straight and I really have Brian to thank for it. I just may keep at this for a while longer.

Brian sent one of mine back to me after he honed it, best edge I've experienced to date. Not only did I enjoy that razor but it motivated me change my approach to honing and try to get better results. My edges still aren't where his are at but they are very good.

I would have to concur. Paco's edge on a razor I bought from him a little while back was super sharp and smooth. I'd be happy if I could put an edge on a blade anywhere near that quality.

Now that you tasted the fruit, you need to learn to "grow yer own". Eventually, if you keep at it, you can fine tune an edge exactly how you want it. And when you get it how you want it the shaves are S U B L I M E.

wow... i am blushing here... :blushing::blushing::blushing:*(probably the 5th screwdriver i am sipping on... :letterk1:)

i am very happy you liked it and are please with it.... if you need it rehoned at any time just let me know....

i just got finished honing up a "art of shaving" solingen for a local here.... it is sharp but i really don't like this razor... if fought every step of the way....

its shave ready tho....:w00t:

OMG REALLY!!!!

that was like 3 months ago!!!

I learned long ago. Don't fix something that is NOT broken.

I am sure I will need to freshen it up sometime but as long as I am happy with the edge I'll just keep stropping it.

Brian's edges are the real deal. My PacoSori™ is crazy sharp. and I have no desire to visit the hones any time soon.

OK Brian. Give it up. What's your progression?

Don't say lapping film. That is the Devils work.
