The Sweet Taste of India

So on Monday the 23rd I head out for a week in Calcutta, a week in Surat, a week in Santaldih, and then a final week in Calcutta.

What has this to do with General Shaving you ask?

Well, it means I will be bringing a large and a small suitcase.
The large will have my clothes and needs for the month, and the small will be empty upon arrival, but completely full upon departure I assure you.

So I pose to you;

If you had an empty suitcase and 4 weeks run of the shops in India, what would YOU be stuffing into that suitcase to bring home?

... is to say, "All that original formula Old Spice you can find."

Come to think of it, maybe my second impulse, also.

Phil (also)

Well, personally, if I had to travel that far, etc. etc., I'd probably be packing a noose.

Um, anyhow...:whistling:... godrej is, of course, a must. Oh, and a tube of Vicco Turmeric SC & a godrej puck for your favorite penguin. :ihih:

If you're an Old Spice fan, then load up. Alum block should be pretty cheap; can never have too many of those (especially with the price in some places).

Phil, Surat is my native home town, though I live in Mumbai, India - Calcutta to Surat is a long way indeed from the East coast to the west !!

You can always refer to my web store for stuff made in India. The question however is if you will find all of that goodness in some store. I have it all since I run a store specifically for wet shaving love. India also has a ton of good bath soaps if they interest you !!

Let me know the dates and if you need any help on getting those products.

How much sandalwood do you think you could fit in there? :w00t: I wonder if you just squeeze it and the good stuff drips out.

I'll be travelling from Kolkata to Mumbai, and then probably taking the train between Mumbai and Surat, the road between the two isn't very good and it was a long and tedious drive the last time I tried it.
I plan on visiting a lot of small local shops, kind of out of the way places while I am in India, and will be spending my spare cash on shaving stuff as opposed to the 99 percent of the worlds diamonds that find their way through Surat for cutting.
It's always a little more fun to go "hunting" on your own, even though I am certain that all that I seek could be found in your shop.

Acknowledge this is "General Shaving," but I'll take a small liberty:
I got a hand-carved sandalwood pen from India. Smells nice, highly recommend. The only problem is, I can't find a brand name for the ink cartridge (simple ball-point), and have yet to find a replacement that fits. It's a Cross-style screw in, but the Cross is a tad too long. It sticks out when you rotate it "closed."

Other neat things that are completely off topic:
1) Hand-carved wooden elephant with a miniature elephant carved inside of the first (oddly enough, I'm told these were all over the place)
2) Although not real India, I got SWMBO some unique earrings from Little India in Singapore. Recommend just looking for something that you know the typical mall jewelry store doesn't and will never have.

Cliffs notes: Get a sandalwood pen. (sandalwood is shaving-related, right?)

I am sure it would be arranged well, however trains like "Rajdhani", "Shatabdi", "Karnavati" is the best clean way to travel between Mumbai and Surat, the rest would have too many stops and other local Indian experiences which I believe you would already be in knowledge of from your earlier India visits. ;)

Phil stuff that suitcase with DE blades -namely the new Supermax range with titanium edges and Godrej cream:w00t:

Maybe if there is an Indian equivalent of the Turkish pestemal, plus all the other stuff previously mentioned.

I envy you.

I am so jealous. I have wanted to go to India for years. Make sure you get a straight shave at one of the roadside stands while you're there.
