The strangest of occurrences...

Hi gents,

So today I had a very strange thing happen to me....

First of all, I got possibly the best WTG first pass I've ever gotten via a twice-used Treet blade and my Merkur 1904 OC... Built this amazing lather too..

The problem occurred about midway through my XTG second pass: the razor literally fell apart on me!
I guess that amazing first pass was its swan-song (and I've only had this razor for about 2 months!)

If anyone has ever disassembled a Merkur 1904 OC, you'll know that there is the top "plate" with the three protrusions: the two rounded ones on the edges and the central one with the screw thread - and this is where the blade fits over. The bottom "plate" fits over all of this and then the handle screws on.

What happened is that the central protrusion of the top plate, the one with the screw threads, SEPARATED FROM THE TOP PLATE!... So about midway through my second pass I was left holding the handle attached to the bottom plate with the screw thread stuck in the handle and my blade dangling from this whole assemblage.

No amount of fiddling that I've done can fix it - and I don't think I can glue it back into place without it breaking again at some point in the future because I think water will degrade the glue... I currently have all these pieces in a plastic bag, which I am now sadly staring at.

So I am currently razor-less. :crying:

Has something like this happened to anyone else before?

I've never had a razor fall completely apart, only pieces of a razor breaking. At least you have a great shave to remember it by.

Merkur will possibly help you with this. There is contact information available elsewhere on the forum. This is a mode of failure that we also see with 34/38 series razors.
