The Scandal Sheet: Straights and other stuff

My back has decreased to the point that it hinders me from getting into position to do any chest work. I used to be able to sit on the bench with two 80lb dumbbells and roll down to start my workout. Sheeeiidddd, just the thought makes my back hurt. I am a decade up on you and those days are gone for me. I do have a rowing machine if only I can dig it out of what has become a storage room.

Congrats on your successful exercise session, and here's to many more in the future.
I should earmark some of my razor budget toward a rower. My knees and hips don't appreciate running as much as they used to, and biking is not a year-round option up here. At least, not with my road bike.

I have a Concept 2 rower, not one of those fancy schmancy ones with a built-in screen for rowing against others, although the Concept 2 does have a connected feature, and with your phone, you can row against others, but the graphics are more like the Tandy computers than a PS5. It is not a cheaper one, but it is built to last. The same rowers most fitness centers have for their rowers.

I always liked the Concept 2s back when I had gym memberships. Simple, well built, no nonsense. Killer workout (if you want it to be).

Whatever you do, don't go look at websites for entertainment without being prepared to spend money! I got an offer for something like 5 year financing at a ridiculously low rate that it was going to be $30 per month or so. I was actually approved and I backed away slowly. Still want that water rower though, for the same reasons as you.

For me, the TotalGym works by using your bodyweight as resistance. Perfect. Been using it for years. There are rowing exercise you can use with it as well. As to a bike, I had a "Wind Trainer" which I could hook the bike onto which allowed me to pedal indoors during the winter. They work by resistance etc. Then when the weather improved back to outside. Congrats on easing "back" into working out.

Yeah, bike trainers are a good option too, both the kind you hook your existing bike into and the assault bike style. The latter are usually easy to come by at garage sales and so forth. Even a crappy one can make for a decent workout. I probably should be looking on FB marketplace.

Shave was uncomfortable today even though it shouldn't have been. It wasn't until I was finished that I realized I had just a tiny bit of sunburn from yesterday. Oops. Tools worked admirably though. Kikuboshi 2002, Yaqi brush, Sea Buckthorn soap, New SC with Astra, and Bignoli splash. Very close and smooth.

Listened to some Waylon today on the way to work.

Be well.

Don't be sad, @Eric_75 . Yesterday, I went for a walk on my lunch break, drove home with the windows wide open and the sun on my face, and spent an hour working with the young critter on learning to ride her bike. I'll take a touch of skin tenderness in return for all that.
Thanks for the reminder to actually use my facial sunblock! I keep the durn thing right at hand and rarely use it and the freckles multiply... which is not a good thing from what I understand.

Man, I've been so busy brain-dumping in Aaron's journal I forgot to write my own. Stupid, sexy @Flanders .

E.A. Berg was up for Frameback Friday. Whipped up some nice MdC Agrumes lather with the Simpson's Emperor. All was good, my face felt (and feels) a lot better than yesterday. Cleanup with the New SC was quick. Tossed the Astra after the shave today, not that it was really needing it but three seems to be a good number and I have enough blades for now. And I'm itching to get back to the R41.

Finished with Myrsol Limon.

Be well.

I guess I forgot to write a journal yesterday. The razor was the same SanKan, but I put it to my translucent arkansas Saturday evening. Shave yesterday was very good. Top flight. I actually used the same razor today too. Still great.

Yesterday I used the Mühle soap again, this time with my Vielong synth. I didn't bother blooming it at all and the soap just exploded into lather. I really like this synth. I may buy another just because, I know they're not being made any more but I did find one vendor, stateside, that has a few. Haven't pulled the trigger yet. Today I used MdC Rose with one of my STFs. Great lather, still not in love with the knot though. R41 did the cleanup the last couple days, Astra SP still. Both days I finished off with the Veg. Got a little more stingle today, probably the Astra is showing its age.

I have the next few days off from work. Not doing anything interesting, we just don't have consistent childcare for the next few weeks and I have time to burn. Not sure how much time I will spend here, though. I don't mind reading the board on my phone but I don't enjoy typing on it (thankfully work doesn't care about internet usage as long as it's not inappropriate). I do have a project to work on, though. Going to build a freestanding shelf unit to hold laundry baskets, so we can sort and fold clothes and have them lined up for the various humans to do with as they will. It's long overdue.

@Eric_75 , my son and I listened to Soul Station yesterday and as I expected, he really liked it. He told me to let you know.

Be well.

I shaved a fortune
Forgot to mention, I also managed to do a little weightlifting last night. Loaded everything with "an abundance of caution" as they say in the public sector. Based on the way I feel today, I'm optimistic that I can repeat it again on Friday.
As I've mentioned too many times, I've been on a long weight loss program since mid-January of 2022. Last month, I had my every three months appointment with my arthritis doctor. She told me I had to add in some light weight training so I didn't become frail... as this is one of the main challenges for the elderly. I can't do weight lifting as I did when I was much younger. My back won't allow it.... but I use one of those 4' long, 6" in diameter foam rolls for stretching and I started using very light weights while laying prone on the foam roll. I started a month ago now, every other day.

In addition to the other benefits, I've had a shoulder problem for over 2 years now. I fell off my mountain bike when exiting our driveway and landed on my shoulder. It's been a source of constant pain since then.... even with months of physical therapy along with the recommended home exercises, repeated massage therapy for it in Indonesia during our trips there over the past year... Long story short... during one of my first weight training periods, I was stretching my hands over my head, all the way down to the floor.. and I heard a loud pop... loud enough so I could hear it in addition to feeling it.... Whatever was bunched up there under my shoulder blade snapped and the pain has been gone for this past month....
