The Latest Re-Plates...

...Have arrived. As a few of you know, I've had some really interesting and some down right disappointing go-rounds with a number of razor restorers. The guy who ripped me off and stole my razors will not be included in this post.

A while back I had some razors re-finished by onotoman in England. Did a nice job and the pricing was fair but it took some time. So I thought lets' try somebody in N.America. Well, its' been a long strange trip to quote the Grateful Dead. Now I have a place in Calgary, Alberta that does a very good job on my chrome re-plates, so that's good. But for other finishes I've been everywhere man. Did the Razor Emporium, took them over 4 months with a return for shoddy work and I still had to do some of the final polishing myself, never again. Used Reliable Plating and whereas they did a nice job, it still took over 4 months to get 3 razors done. I was beginning to wonder if I'd find the magic combo of very good to excellent craftsmanship plus decent turn around time. So this time I sent 3 razors to Dave at West Coast Razors to see how he could do. I sent the razors on May 7th and got them back today. Knock off 3 weeks for mail there and back and the time still comes in at 2 months. Much better than anyone else but still...2 months? I know Dave has been busy and that's just the way it is.

So the final word is I will go back to Dave for more re-plating, because of his attention to detail and craftsmanship. I'm sure the next ones will be done sooner and Dave did apologize for the wait.

On to the razors... I had an ABC re-plated in Silver, a Slim Adj done in black Ceracoat and a 1934 New #77 2 piece done in Rhodium. I have to say Dave does very, very good work. No complaints from me about the quality of his plating and finishing. Ha also packages the razors up very well.

I really like the ABC sets and now this one looks the way it did almost 100 years ago. The New has been a go to razor for me and looks great in Rhodium. The Slim is a bit different and I know not everyone will like it. However, I think it's new look is very cool and just a bit menacing. The Darth Vader/Dark side of my razors as it were.

Cheers

Yes, he is the current re-plater that has high marks for workmanship and customer satisfaction...in a short time has turnaround his business to unbelievable levels. We are proud of Dave here at the B&B. I am sure others would agree with me.

Dave's work is top notch and he is a good guy to deal with.

That ceracoat Slim looks great, have you thought of painting the numbers a deep red?

I am hoping to read some additional feedback from someone saying they liked razor emporium. I just sent them a fatboy.

I may be in the minority, but I rather like that black slim.
The other two are also eye-candy, but that slim is, well, drawing me in like a black hole.

Hope it works out for you, fingers crossed.

Thinking about a bright fire engine red, I want some contrast

WOW! I really like the slim. They all are outstanding. Does he repair also? My slim adjuster spring is broken. I hope there are no patent infringements on the "Darth Vader" color scheme. Artistic genius brother!

Well, as we all know Firemen from New York are tough and you are a NYFP Fireman, so i guess you can take it on the chin if something goes wrong.

Wow, that looks amazing, I was thinking of doing that as well, but I wasn't sure about how I liked it, but the I believe the contrast between the three razors makes for a good visualization. I'm sold. I have a fatboy that Dave is doing in Rhodium for me right now, but I think I am going to have to ceracoat something now

Wow love them all, Love the Slim Dark knight look, you can paint the Numbera white for extreme contrast, Or Dark Flat Red for That phantom look, Or Nice Dark Purple Either way when it comes to black painting those numbers you jave lots of choices and it still will look Amazing )

Wow, that slim looks incredible. I was thinking of doing gun metal grey with a tech I have. Seeing the result of the muted black is really tempting...
