Does it seem odd to anyone else that The Los Angeles Angels (Or LA Angels) translates to

Another random thought. Doesn't anyone else think it odd that they call themselves The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. I guess I could call teams the New York Dodgers of Los Angeles or the Boston Braves of Atlanta. It's pretty stupid, if you ask me.
The La Brea Tar Pits translates to The The Tar Tar pits.
Does it seem odd to anyone that "New York" is actually hundreds of years old, or that the N.Y. Giants and Jets play all of their games in New Jersey? Is it odd that "Kansas City" is actually located in Missouri, or that the "Lakers" play in Los Angeles (where there is nary a lake to be found), or that the "Jazz" now play in Utah?
When they started they were simply the "Los Angeles Angels," which made all of the sense in the world (it most accurately translates as "The City of Angels, Angels). Then the Dodgers moved to L.A., and the Angels became the "California Angels," which still made some sense. Then the city of Anaheim forced them to adopt the name "The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim" (in exchange for helping to renovate their stadium.) Finally, in order to associate themselves with L.A.'s larger market (strictly for the purpose of greater television and advertising revenues), they once again became the "Los Angeles Angels."

They used to be called the Anaheim Angels, when Arte Moreno bought the team he wanted to increase the local appeal so the tried to change it to the Los Angeles Angels. The city sued because due to the contracts about the stadium the team is required to have Anaheim in the name. So lawsuits were brought and they lost and thus we have the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
Buts is still better that then NY Yankers....
At the end of the day, at least it not referred to as Jerry Jones World.
