The "israeli" blades

few months ago, ordered a Parker 71r with the "Israeli" blades that come on site. They come in a plain white plastic box with just a picture of a blade on the front. There's no writing on them either. I'm getting quite a lot of irritation, and I can't tell if it's poor technique, the razor or the blades.

It's possible that they are the Super+ Platinums (a.ka. Israel Personna). What's your experience with DE shaving? Have you tried these blades in other razors? In the meantime, use a little less pressure and see if the irritation diminishes.

+1 with DE Shaver on this. The IPs are among the few brands that most people like if not prefer.

Technique, lather quality, even the pH of the water you use are going to matter a lot. The blue Israelis are well-honed, have a good coating, and quality control at the plant is pretty good. Another important variable is the razor you use. Not that I want to get you started on a razor-buying binge; perish the thought!

Oh, and the Israeli blues are generally indy-wrapped in blue-on-white paper (whence their nickname) and will have some or all of the following on each piece: Made In Israel, Super Platinum +, and a patent number. That doesn't mean they're not IPs if they don't have such markings, but the ones I've seen were so stamped and packaged, whether sold as Crystal brand, e.g., or in bulk with no name.

I've never seen them packed that way.. I've seen the Red IP's that have a red wrapper and the Crystals that have a water wrapper with "Crystal" stamped in blue on the wrapper.

Well, that's how I've seen 'em in photos around the boards. Crystals packaged just as the "generics". Blue printing on white wrappers and the markings I described. Of course, someone may have gotten labels confused while photographing them. In any event, this is how I've seen them presented. Go figure, huh?

Thank you for all of your replies. In regards to said blades, they bear no markings whatsoever on either the packet, blade shroud or blade itself. They're completely blank.

In regards to your post, DE Shaver, I've not used them in any other razor yet (I have my merkur 39c on hold at the distribution centre ¬.¬ should come friday). I've used any amount of pressure from none through to enough to pull the razor across my cheek enough. I don't to the best of my knowlege apply pressure to my face.

I had maybe 8 packs of Derby Extras turn up today. I'll let you know

They might not be Israelis. All the ones I've seen have been marked in some way. Not always with "made in Israel" but something. The two most common are the red pack Personna and the ones that have blue on the wrapper and come in a little plain white cardboard box of 100. I like the red ones better.

again, I refer to the link. I've used the shaving shack for a long time now, I'm sure they're right. ah well; it's a mystery!

Hi! Those are the crystals blades. One they are in a 10 package they are called crystals. When they are in bulk packing they are called blue IP Personna. Those in that picture look more like the tesco packing. Please refer to letterk "a guide to Israeli Personna". All answers are there!

Your face might not like that blade! Try another one and compare!

Take care,

David

Well, I've got enough Derbys extra to last me for a month or so now; they come free with any order over £10 at the shaving shack, and so i've been stocking up cos of my Soap and cream ADs XD
I'll let you know. The reviews seem to be a mixed bag on Derbys.
As I said before; it might just be my sucky technique. I'll also see how they compare when in a Merkur slant on saturday.

Tried the Derby's- they just chewed up my face, like the israeli blades did.

Was the razor, though. Shaved today with an israeli blade in my new 39c, and it worked fine.

Also, bought a pack of UK distribution Personnas. Blue and yellow outer packaging; same pack as the misc "israeli blades". Mystery solved.

Try a Derby in the near future and see if it shaves well. If it does, your razor isn't suited to your technique.

There's generally an alternative. :001_smile And at the risk of sounding like a broken record, you can always try stropping a blade by running it gently through a cork or even a foam packing peanut. This process takes the raw edges off a seemingly unusable blade and saves you money by keeping serviceable blades from being chucked out forthwith. :thumbup1:

tried the derbys again in my 39c. Abused my face so much on the first pass i switched to my israeli personnas before second pass. I've got 25 blades unopened i need to PIF to someone who likes them at some point.

They are the exact same Israeli made blade that are stocked by Boots, Asda, Tesco and Morrisons. In Boots, Asda and Tesco they are sold under the respective store brand. But in Morrisons they are sold under the Personna brand name. They are a great quality blade and I have had nothing but good shaves from them. YMMV.

According to research by Dark Angel the Tesco blades are sourced from the ASR plant in Israel but are made to a different standard than either Reds or Blues.

Regardless, that plant makes no crappy products. Everything sells and each brand has its fan base.
