What's new

The Chubby 1 is pretty darned phenominal!

I received a few high-end brushes yesterday; Thater, Rooney Heritage, but the one that really stands out to me is the Chubby 1 2-band Super. I have pretty huge hands - I can span 14 keys on a piano, but the handle is just large enough to be comfortable. I wrap my thumb around it with my index and middle fingers creating a spiral. Although the knot seems small, it feels much larger on the face, and with the extreme bulb shape and firm backbone, the tips create a tremendous massaging feeling as they swirl around while face lathering. If I only had one brush, I think I could be pretty with the chubby 1!

Does the Chubby 2 2-band create the same massaging feeling, or is the loft too large to "swirl" as my chubby 1 does?

Next to the Dukes, the Chubby 1 is a favourite of mine. For face lathering I find it ideal in size. The Chubby 2 is a great brush but I sold mine in preference for the 1. It's just that bit too large for my liking.

The Chubby 1 Super is my #1 shaving brush.

I use a Thater 4292/3 and like it. It feels much better for face lathering than my old AOS pure badger.
I have read online that the Chubby Supers are not very sturdy and lose their knots/shed. Do you happen to know if any of the quality rumblings are true? I would sooner suspect the brushes are not being treated properly, but for the money... it's best to be safe.
Thinking of picking up a Chubby 1 for myself.

The occasional brush from any manufacturer can shed. Simpson stands behind their products with excellent customer service. The Chubby line is very densely packed and new brushes will often loose few hairs in the first few shaves. I currently have 5 Chubbies, one of which is 30 years old, and none shed. You can buy Simpsons with confidence and should you get a defective brush it will be replaced.

IMO, one cannot have too many Thater and Simpson brushes.
On second thought, I suppose one could have too many.
How many is too many?

Do whatever you can to get yourself the Chubby 2 2-band! It is 1,000 times better than the Chubby 1, in my opinion. It seems huge compared to the 1, but it is even softer! Good luck.

My CH2 two band is only about ten times better than the CH1.
Celestino is right, nonetheless. Get a CH2 two band. You won't regret it.

How does the 2band compare to the manchurian badger? Just might get myself one of the LEs direct from Simpson.

I looked it up and scoffed at the price for a second before I realized I would spend more on a pen.
It's all relative.

I would have to agree on the chubby 2 2-band. Wonderful brush with great lather release. Very much better than my chubby 2 best in that regard, but I still love both.

So close to telling Mark to start proceedings on an Eagle in Best but maybe, just maybe, will order it in 2 band instead...

Sir, I'm a huge fan of Simpson brushes in general and of the Chubby and Duke Series in particular. Of all the Simpsons I have owned (about 20) only one was a true shedder. It was my very first Simpson (!) and it was a Duke 3. The brush, shipped back to the manufacturer, was immediately replaced. I never had any kind of issues with other Simpson brushes. In my opinion they are very well made and the customer service from Mark is simply wonderful.

16 posts, 12 hours later, still no pics of all these brushes?

I am not a Simpson fan, but do appreciate their handle designs. But I will say this, I have never had an issue with any shedding in the 5-6 Simpson brush I have owned over the past 2 years. When I have contact them for a replacement Sticker as mine had worn off, they were quick to send me a few free replacements as well as quick to quote on Special Order brushes like the Eagle in Best etc.

In fact, I've never had an issue with any shedding brush, aside from a used brush on the BST and my WD is still shedding when I lather it.

If you start a thread about your purchase, the minimum you need to do is post some pics out of the box...but pre and post bloom are also welcomed

I recently acquired a CH1 in 2 Band (actually from German) and a CH2 in 2 Band. The CH1 and CH2 are completely different brushes IMO. The CH1 is scrubbier and has a much denser knot (more than CH2 Best and more than Classic 2-densest I own), it retains a bit of scrub and has tons of backbone. The CH2 is definitely far less dense, pillow soft, and has better flow through. I cant see myself parting with either of them, but they are very different brushes. $IMG_2470.jpg$IMG_2471.jpg

Thanks for posting this comparison - extremely valuable! I'm sure I'll pick up a Chubby 2 2-band in the near future, but the Chubby 1 will probably remain my favorite brush.

Cheers!
