Not bad. I'm a teacher and enjoy wearing the random animal print tie. I have a Brooks Brothers giraffe one and I have ties with guide dogs to doves on them. It would be nice to find a badger one.

In your case, I'd recommend that you fly to NY, go to Pasteur's (after which the $12 will seem chicken-feed) and then stop by Brooks before you leave.
It's better than my idea to just use a Sharpie and write B&B on a tie.
For twenty years, I wore a tie to work every day. I'm in the medical field, and a few years back, a study was published that showed that ties were the single item most likely to transmit bacteria. While we tend to wash the rest of our clothes routinely, ties may go long periods between cleanings. My partners and I discussed it, and we all switched to golf shirts or sweaters. I have dozens of ties in the closet that are rarely used. I miss wearing them as they look more professional than my current outfit.

Bowties. They don't dangle over areas, and are obviously closer to the body.
Spray them with a disinfectant spray like Lysol. Works for me.
