The B&B Nib journal pass around, CLOSED

After gauging interest in a pass around , of some sort, it seems that a journal has garnered the most interest. I think it's a fantastic idea, and hope it's something we can all have fun with.

I'm going to try and outline how I see it going. We can certainly change it around to best serve everyone, but these are my initial thoughts;

1) A traveling journal that will go from member to member ( who sign up and want to do it ) to be used as documentation for when you have it. A member will receive the journal, and have a set amount of time to write in it, however they see fit, then send it to the next member on the list. A couple of examples of such entries are, but not limited to; poems, forms of writing, talking about yourself, family, country, state, interests, other hobbies, drawing a picture, etc.

There are no limitations except B&B rules apply, and I will get to why that is important later in the post.

2) I think the best way to sign up is to quote the most recent list, add your name, then re post it. I think it will be easier for me than going through and trying to get the "I'm in's " and then making a list. ( Doug, let me know if we should do it a different way ) You are free to comment any way you see fit, with other posts, but let's try to keep the list, just the list.

3) It's my opinion that we need to have a cut off date, for signing up for the journal. That may change depending on how many initially sign up, but I have a goal for this journal that involves a time frame. ( explained below )

4) We may have to have a limit to the number of pages one gets, when contributing to the journal. ( again depending on how many people sign up ) I want everyone that wishes to contribute, the opportunity to do so.

5) Not sure how to go about getting the journal to someone oversees. I don't want to leave those out who wish to make an entry, but I haven't figured out the best way to possibly do it, or if it's even possible. ( opinions are welcome )

Now, my reason for the time table and why B&B rules apply to your entry.

It's my goal for the journal to make it's rounds, then find it's way into the "SAINT" Sue Moore Memorial Fundraiser Auction. I was hoping some of us could donate some items to go along with the journal. ( Pens, inks, paper, seals etc. ) If we get a lot of items, we could split them up into separate lots.

I will get with someone in the know and report back on the date to have materials entered into the auction.

I've rambled on enough, your opinions are welcome and much appreciated, so for now, I will start the list.

I have found the best way to put your name on the list, is to quote with a reply and move the last [/QUOTE] ( by clicking before the quote and moving it down, with the enter button ) down past the last name , then enter yours

I'm interested in what you guys/gals think is a good size and type of journal to use?

Maybe one size will go through the mail and fit into mailboxes better than others?

Also, I was thinking we could send it to someone who could create a cover or 1st page. I like the script James does, but I don't want to volunteer him. Or we could decide who wants to do it and leave the first page open until it gets to that member?

A full sized 8x11 if anything lime magazines will get folded in the mail here not sure about in the states... may consider the ones just down from that

If James were willing to do it, he would be an excellent choice. As to the donations, I assume we would send them to a nib member to organize for the lot or lots, correct? When the time for that comes, I will have at least Lamy Al-Star and a full bottle of Baystate Blue to toss it. When I order Pelikan Royal Blue I will probably just buy an extra bottle for donating, too.

Hello all! I've volunteered to donate a journal to this. I was thinking that, since it's going to end up on the 'Saint Sue' charity auction, maybe a pink journal could be used.

There are 2 options for a "normal" sized journal.
http://www.gouletpens.com/Leuchtturm...p/lbl11-pk.htm
Or
http://www.gouletpens.com/Clairefont..._p/c195836.htm

Both are a pretty standard size ( About 150mm X 210mm or 5.75"X8.25" - rough conversion ). The Leuchtturn1917 has 249 sides ( 125 sheets ), while the Clairfontaine has 96 sides ( 48 sheets ).

I'm willing to pick up anything in this price range ( up to about $20 or $25 ).

It'll end up drop-shipped to RockMiner so he can start the pass-around.

That sounds great, Shane. I think you are right about the color.

I like the pink hardbound journal if we're going to auction this off. There would be enough blank space left in the journal behind all our writing for the new owner to use it if they like. Plus, it won't be as likely to get bent in transit. I think part of the first journal entry should be a description of this project, including our intent to auction it for the Sue Moore Day B&B Auction.
