What's new

The .22 rimfire picture thread!

I figured a thread to share and admire the vast array of .22 rimfires out there would be a fun one. Many people have them and sometimes they are just the "rat rifle" or kids gun, but you still have them and shoot them. Myself, I am a big fan of the .22 rimfire cartridge for many reasons, but its cost/accuracy ratio is completely unparalleled in all of fiearms. Sure, airguns are cheaper and just as accurate, but they're not the same thing as powder burners.

Maybe you never spend a dime on yours and just feed it a box of bulk ammo every month, or you have tricked out 40XB or Win52D, eitherway, show us what you got!

I'll start with just two of my rifles because I have pics handy, but as I get more photos of the rest of my guns I will add them.

WU dated Remington 582. Basically a miniature 788, even the triggers are the same. I have owned this gun for over 20 years and it was my first real rifle. I had a cheap marlin .22 before that, but it was an auto and I longed for a bolt gun. I completely redid it a few years ago, refinished the stock, touched up the metal, jeweled the bolt. It will shoot < 0.5" groups at 50 yards if I do my part.

This is a Savage 4C I picked up for $30 from the lgs as an unsafe gun for a project. It is in actually fantastic shape, the unsafe issue is the cocking cam on the rear of the bolt body is worn so it won't **** if you try to fast cycle the bolt. I have been looking for replacement parts for about a year and just recently found some. Next payday and this thing will be back to tip-top condition before being modded into a open sight target gun. Likely in a mini Palma style, not per spec, but mostly the look. Gotta love the natural plumb brown patina and old walnut stock!

So show us what's been sitting in the closet, under the seat of the truck, or is your prized bunny buster!

Is that top one a Martini?

It is a proprietary falling block design which is based on the Martini action but it was designed by and is proprietary to Haenel (the manufacturer). It is similar to a Martini action but just different enough that Haenel did not have to pay royalties.

This one is a true Martini action (Hammerli)

Thanx for the info Turtle. I knew something was up with it, but it looked like a Martini. Sweet Hammerli!

My dueling Papoose takedowns along with my Mark II.

Also have a few cheap Jennings I keep in my tackle box to put large Halibut to sleep when they are alongside the boat.

I got the Savage 4C I posted above all fixed and safely functioning now! Replaced the bolt body with one from a Savage 416 Target which is blued rather than the terrible chrome plated. Works like a charm and looks better as well! I also got a rear sight elevator which was missing. I'm going to put on a recoil pad as well, mostly just to lengthen it for me, not like .22 recoil is bothersome!

Very nice rifles so far. I'll add a couple from both food groups - both are nail drivers:

TOP: Savage Mk. II with wood stock and bull barrel.

BOTTOM: Colt Diamondback .22, 6 inch barrel.

Love that Diamondback! I have a strong desire to get another 22 revolver.
I don't have a picture of my Ruger 10/22 that I have had since I turned 18 but here is my Ruger Pistol

A little fun in the sun on a recent Sunday afternoon.

Nothing on the table but .22's

Ruger MRKII
CZ American 452
Ruger 10/22
Savage MRKII FV-SR (off camera)
An older Henry Golden Boy (unable to see because it's in the black/red ruger bag)
Unknown to me rifle in the sled (belongs to buddy)

.22's are the only thing I can afford to shoot any more. Luckily I have a lifetimes supply of ammo for them and some decent firearms that should last longer than the ammo.

The only one presently. A Savage 29b from c. late 1950s. This rifle is the only keepsake I have of my grandfather, who taught me to shoot with it.

My newest rimfire - CZ 452 Ultra Lux in .22LR. It's tough to take a good pic with a 28.5" barrel.

3 rounds at 25y target using Federal AutoMatch.
