Thayers witch hazel

Maybe its just me, but I swear since i started using Thayers rose petal witch hazel ive seen more breakouts than before. I use it after my cold rinse, before after shave. It seems to almost irritate my skin a bit. Anyone ever noticed anything like this? I thought it was supposed to soothe?

I've been using Thayer's lavender for a while (about to open a bottle of Cucumber) and I'm not sure how much it does for me, but I'll keep using it as it hasn't had any negative effects on my skin.

I very rarely (maybe once a fortnight) cleanse and tone before bed (when you're hammered, who has time, or coordination :D) but in the mornings I wouldn't go without it.

How are you applying it? In what order do you complete your morning routine?

I go:
shower/shave/tone/balm/moisturiser/cologne (obviously the cologne doesn't go on my face though).

I've used the following Thayers products for years:
  • Lemon Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera Formula Astringent
  • Original Witch Hazel w/Aloe Vera Astringent
  • Medicated Superhazel with Aloe Vera Formula Astringent
  • Alcohol-Free Original Witch Hazel Toner
  • Witch Hazel After Shave w/Aloe Vera Formula
  • Original Witch Hazel w/Aloe Vera Astringent Pads
None of them have given me any rash or breakouts. In fact, I've been using the alcohol-free version to help heal the horrible rash I got in my pits from using some new Tom's of Maine deodorant roll-on.

Some of us are sensitive to perfume -- the stuff that makes it smell nice. I hope your skin isn't as picky as mine, but it's something to check on.

You can get some plain, unscented witch hazel at any pharmacy (including Walmart) for a dollar or two. It's usually near the first aid supplies. You could use it for a few days and see how the results compare to the Thayer's.

If you haven't smelled ordinary witch hazel... well, once you do, you'll understand people buy the scented stuff. It smells like the water you cooked the asparagus in.

This may be the problem. You should be using it before closing your pores. Otherwise it just sits on your skin! Try the unscented version to eliminate the possibility of a reaction to the parfum.

Cheers.

Im one of the lucky guys who has to shave BEFORE I shower. Heres my routine:

Hot water/Towel soak
apply shave cream TOBs Jermyn st
w/shave brush
shave w/the grain (Merkur slant w/feather)
shave across the grain
shower
cold water rinse right out of shower
dry face apply thayers witch hazel
let dry
apply aftershave milk

Well, funny you mentioned the rose. I have been using just rosewater after I shave for about a year now, with no problems. So, i heard so many good things about thayers and in constant search of that perfect shave i figured id try the rose petal witch hazel since i had such good results with rose water alone. Is it possible im the %1 that cant use witch hazel??????????:scared:
