TGN Super Silvertip floppy at 50mm

So I'm looking to try a new knot in an available handle. I was thinking about trying the TGN Super and setting it at 50mm for a luxurious feel. Will it be floppy at this height? I only face lather so I need SOME backbone. I have a Finest and a WD Silvertip knot and they are both fantastic. Is the super a good knot or is money better spent elsewhere?

I had a TGN 20mm knot in Super and made the mistake of setting it @50mm, floppy would be an improvement, it was more like a wet noodle. I wouldn't set a Super higher than 43 or 44mm, I think you'd have decent Backbone but this Grade is better served if you use Creams.

Ahhhh, I use mostly soft soaps. Maybe I should go with another Finest. I've also thought about black badger but I'm not sure I'd like the scritchiness of it

The Black is cheap enough that if you don't like it, you aren't out much coin. Can you use a boar? If a boar works okay for you, then a Black Badger won't be too scritchy. Set it higher than you would a finer grade of badger.

I think it would be cool to have an adjustable loft brush handle. Then you could adjust adjust adjust until you find just the right loft for a given knot.

I set a grade A (STA) from TGN at 50 and it was not floppy, on the edge, but not floppy. However, it was more of a bowl lathering brush. I was not happy with the set. I would say if it is a tight fit then 45 to 46 would be the ticket. I have the STA set at 45 in another brush and it is near perfect.

I had 26/48 in this knot and I found while it had a slight backbone, it just wasn't enough for me.

The brush now has a TGN finest knot, it ticks all my boxes :D

My 22mm super silvertip is set at 42mm and I like it there, it feels like a more luxurious Eagle 3. I face lather soaps, and it does a good job even if its on the small side for my tastes.

Just get whatever knot you want and make it a tight fit in the handle and use a dab of silicone to hold it in and try out different lofts till you get the one you want. Then set it with epoxy.
