TGN High Mountain White

Does anyone have any experience with this knot from TGN yet? I was thinking of knotting one of my restores with one but I would love to hear about other opinions on this knot first. I don't think I've seen anyone talking about it yet. How's the density and backbone compared to other knots? Is it super soft??

Pics would be awesome too... :biggrin1:

Nobody huh? I was a bit worried that there weren't many with experience with it. I'm very curious but I'm wondering if its worth the price.

Hi, Tyler. I would've responded sooner but I was out of town without a PC the past several days. I have the 24mm knot set it in my restored Rubberset 400 at 53mm loft. I've only shaved with it a couple of times, and my initial impressions are favorable. Based on the limited use to this point, I'm reluctant to offer specifics on backbone, flow through, etc. To me the knot feels very soft on my face and seems fairly dense. I've both face and bowl lathered with it successfully. There's been no shedding or other problems.

As for whether it's worth the extra cost, I really can't say. I'm very satisfied with it, although the TGN Finest offers better value, I'm sure. What drove my decision to try the High Mountain White was I wanted something different for my Rubberset 400. I've used mostly TGN Finest and a few Silvertips in restorations, and I like them very much.

Sorry I'm unable to offer more information for you. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply Jim! Sounds like a nice knot so far to me. Do you know what loft you set it at? And do you have any pics? Also, how would you say the backbone is compared to the finest knots you've tried?

Sorry for the 20 questions.

No problem, Tyler. I used it with this morning's shave because your post picqued my interest. Mine is a 24mm set at 53mm loft. For me, it has plenty of backbone (but I like brushes that many would shun for being too floppy); in my estimation there's little difference in backbone between this knot and the Finest. The tips seem noticeably softer than the Finest-- I detected no scritch. I find the knot to be sufficiently dense for face lathering, and it bowl lathers just fine, too. Here are a couple of SOTD photos:

I hope this is helpful.

Thanks Jim! That's a nice looking brush man! Sounds like it fits the bill for my preferences. I may have to pick one up.

Thanks, Tyler-- I'm pleased with how the brush turned out. If you decide on the TGN High Mountain Badger, I hope you like it as much as I do. Good luck!
