[Tennis]Suggest a racquet for a beginner

So I'm gonna try out tennis this summer and need to find a good beginners racquet to start off with. I don't want to spend a lot of money on it just in case i don't stick with it. Just looking for something basic to get me going.

I seen this one on amazon that seemed to get decent reviews and is about in my price point. (don't really want to spend more then $30)

Wilson Impact Tennis Racket

cough play raquetteball instead cough

Sorry, but I don't know anything about tennis =O

Haha who knows it could lead to that... its just that i have two friends that already have tennis racquets and "know how to play" ;)

I don't think you can go too wrong with any Wilson racket in your price range. They obviously aren't awesome, but for a beginner, it should serve you well.

That racquet really isn't worth the money. I have played since I was little through high school and college. What you want to look for initially is a one piece frame. On the racquet you suggested it is has two seperate tubes that go into the top of the handle. This makes balls you hit anywhere off center vibrate the frame which in turn goes into your hand and arm. Long story short look for a racquet off craigslist from someone who's played for a while. Lots of people go through used racquets fairly quickly and a good racquet will last a lifetime. Ideally grab one that can be restrung. Hope this helps a little.

that tennis racket looks good, I have played tennis for a long time, and in the beginning a racket is a racket. Try it for 25 bucks (hey it costs less than two tickets to the movies with popcorn and soda).

Once you play tennis for a while then you can step up to a better one.

I dunno where you are from, but a ticket cost me $10 + $3 parking Q_Q

No popcorn/soda for me =/

Thanks for the info guys, i actually ended up using my fathers racquet. He doesn't use it anymore so it worked out perfect. We had a blast though, played for about an hour and 45 minutes, what a work out that was. I was having trouble with my open swing? (opposite of backhand) but started to figure it out later in the day. I'm gonna use this racquet for a while then i'll definitely look for a quality used one on craiglist.

Good to hear you had fun. First few times I played, I kept hitting "home runs" haha. Thats why I switched to raquetteball, I don't have to run as far to get a ball, lmao, oh and its AC'ed.

Yep had a few homers my self haha. My forehand stroke sucks though, i either net it every time or pop it up. Racquetball sounds like a blast though i'd love to give it a try.

I just played my first tennis match in a year yesterday. Great fun and my body is pretty sore today

If you ever get the opportunity, try test playing as many rackets as possible. I tried out my friends' rackets and also some a local tennis store had to offer and eventually found a racket that felt amazing. Not cheap but a good racket and that makes things a lot easier :thumbup1:
