technique question, paintbrush vs circular

i´ve been wetshaving for close to two years now with a brush and a merkur 34c, the thing is, i´ve always gone circular motion with the brush, but yesterday i was inspired by a video i saw around and decided to try paintbrush style,

i must say, the shave was quite good, but i wonder if it was a technique or random occasion for improvement of the shave,

I don't think method of application is as important as consistency and quantity of application.

Do what works best for you, some folks like the stippled look of a circular motion, some are more "retentive" and like the smooth surface of the paintbrush motion.

Personally, I prefer to have my shaving cream gunited, but the equipment can be expensive.

I go circular to finish the lather and massage it it, then paint it on to give it a nice even look. Kind of like I'm getting ready to lay a tile floor. Except I don't put any cream on my razor.

I face lather. When I add water the first few passes are paint-style to spread the water over a large area before working it back together. Then I swirl to work the wet cream back into the brush and get the thick lather back onto my face. So I guess my rule is swirl to work lather through the brush, paint otherwise.

Create lather on face with circular motions, finish up painting to make lather consistent.

This is what I do. I use circular motions to massage the lather into my face, and then I use a paintbrush motion to make sure I have enough on my face.

I use the circular motion. Painting it on doesn't seem to accomplish much, except to turn your face white.

A few times, I experimented with working it via circular, letting it sit for a minute to work itself into the whiskers, then just prior to applying the blade, I would paint the lather in the direction of the upcoming stroke.

It was more of a novelty than anything else. It might be helpful to a newbie to facilitate "visualizing" the stoke to improve technique, but I can shave by "feel" and "sound" now, so I didn't really get anything out of it.

I have been wet shaving for almost 30 yrs. I've use both method, however I figure I use the circular 80% of the time. No order of method, I go by a spontainious feel and what ever mood I am in that morning. The paint for even spread and the cirxular to work the lather in and message. I don't know which is better? I just know what I prefer. Do both?.

best regards and good luck

I lather in a scuttle. I usually go circular and "scrub" at first, then use long strokes to even the lather. I don't know if this improves the shave, but I love to feel a scrubby brush on my face.

I like the circular motion to really work the lather into the beard. Sometimes I'll use the paint motion to even it out, and sometimes I'll just leave it from the circular motion. I do think the circular motion is better though. :001_tongu

I just basically just slap the lather on with a combination of strokes and what ever suits the texture and consistency of the lather
