Hey All,
Recently I picked up a new razor off the BST and was showing it off to some members of my Crossfit Box. One of them loved the look of it and asked a bunch of questions (e.g. Do you actually shave with this?
). Just seeing the razor and answering a few questions he got pretty interested in learning to shave with a straight so I offered to teach him.
We just had our first learning session last night and it went pretty well. I gave him one of the straights I don't use anymore, some soap and my travel brush. Told him he could keep the first two but the travel brush (a RV Custom) was just a loaner.
He didn't cut himself once which is great. I made sure he only did one WTG pass and told him to only do that for the time being. Like any new person (and some experienced people!!) he needs to work on his angles, however, by the end of the shave he was able to feel the difference between a good angle and a bad one, and hear it too! It was his first ever wet shave so he was also learning to make lather. Per the norm, not enough product (but it was close!!), which is a mistake I've made with that brush many a time.
I've got to say it's pretty exciting teaching someone how to shave with a straight. I taught myself using the videos here and elsewhere online, it really seems like having someone there helping to correct your shave angle as you're making the mistake may make things easier to learn.
He's signed up on the board and hopefully he'll start posting soon. He did a great job with his first shave and I'm pretty sure we've got another convert! Now to figure out how soon to introduce him to all the other fun subs here...
Cheers,
M.
