Tasting Craft Beer video

This was posted over at homebrewtalk.com. Thought I'd share it.

That was a great video. One of the breweries in the video is Stone Brewing. That is only a few miles from where I live and they have some great beers and a really interesting restaurant at the brewery. If you are ever in the area, I recommend checking it out.

Aside from advice about arranging a formal beer tasting, I think it has some good take home points on the "finer" points of beer. How to taste, proper glassware etc.

JPM - Stone has some great beer! My current obssession is Sublimely Self Riteous.

Fun video, I would make 2 additions though.

1) Make sure everyone who attends cuts back on the smelly stuff, aftershave etc...it will dominate the room and make it hard to detect aromatics from the beer.

2) right before that fist sniff from the glass cover it with something. A coaster, bit of paper, plastic cup lid, your hand(in a pinch). Lift the cover right before sticking you nose right in the glass and you will get a lot more of the aroma.

I also agree with Vinni in the video. Smell before you examine, most people have the notion that good beer must be clear...not so. Don't taint your opinion before you even try it.

I have a bottle of that at home I'm trying tonight. I was at the brewery last week and they had a vanilla bean smoked porter. It was like cream soda and beer all in one. That may not sound great, but it was fabulous! Unfortunately, they only have it 3-4 times a year and you can only get it at the brewery.

Easily my favorite brewery. I make it a point to stop by every time I'm in the San Diego area.
