Taming Your Beard?

I really want to grow out a full beard but after a a week or so, it starts to grow directly outward and looks really poor.

I bought a beard and mustache comb but are there any products out there like waxes that could help it grow downwards more?

Email Duck Dynasty. Some of those boys have big beards that clean up nice when needed. Or just look at the beard care products at WCS. Honestly, I'd email DD just to see how they reply.

Once it gets some weight to it, it will grow down. Beard oil will help or a light pomade/wax. Facial hair needs trained on which to grow just like the hair on your head.
Combing doesn't do anything for my mustache but make it frizz out... a brush may be different.

comb it daily, throughout the day if you can. wash it daily, use conditioner if you wish. after you wash it be sure to comb it again. "training" your hair to fall flat.

but as stated above, you really can't control it until it is longer.

thanks for the tips. it's got probably 2 weeks worth of growth ATM. already looks better with combing.

ill start conditioning tonight

Every time I read something about beards I want to grow mine again.

then I remember I'm going to be in a wedding in August and the bride has requested no beards.

then I also remember about all the new blades I just got that I want to sample.

but after alllll that is over i'm going to grow my beard out again.

It's just so much fun!

The bride has requested no beards? Are mustaches okay?

Even if I were the groom I would ignore that nonsense.

As a man who hasn't been without a beard since 2002, all I can say is - be thankful YOU are not the one marrying her.

To the OP, at two weeks you're still going to be in porcupine mode. Give it time. I like to use a little jojoba oil and sweet almond oil in my beard to keep it soft. It can help even at this stage.

They have both been great friends for 12 years so I respect her wishes, he doesn't care. I had a good 6 month beard going when they asked me to be in the wedding. If it was up to him I'd be wearing a 10 month beard and my cowboy boots.

I'm thankful I'm not marring anyone! This will be the 4th wedding i've been a part of. each time I think "awww this is sooo....yea no, not doing this ever. best wishes!"

back to the beards....I have Wild Man Beard Conditioner which I highly recommend. It has a very nice subtle scent and it softens your beard like no other. making it easier to comb and manage.

I'd recommend a military type brush. It will both help get your hair to lay right and it will help redistribute oils. I've had beards and even a set of chops down to my collarbone. I never bothered with a comb until it was an inch or longer, until then a brush was always my best bet.
