Tallow is good...

Was lucky to score a tallow based soap from Prairie Creations on ebay for not more than $8.50 incl shipping. Today I used it the first time - wow, what a great experience this was! My skin still feels super smooth, much better than with my normal cram or soap line up. Its seems that this soap is very moisturizing. It takes a bit to get it lathering, but then it gets to that stage of a thick, smooth lather, absolutely amazing. Not sure what the scent is, the name is "Call of the Wild", I really cannot determine any specific note.
The size of the soap is huge compared to others, it is 5 oz in a jar!

I LOVE tallow soaps, but wasn't overly impressed with the PC I have. It lathered great, but I couldn't seem to keep it from drying out. Not to stir the pot, but it didn't perform as well as Tabac in most regards. I gotta say...although other tallow soaps I've tried are fantastic, I still get just as great of a shave with non-tallow soaps...SCS being my favorite. Still, I'm glad the PC soaps have a good following around here - Krissy's on to something good, and once her production difficulties smooth out I'd definitely go back for more...my problems with the soap are most likely down to technique. I have so many other soaps that I haven't really spent a lot of time with the PC.

Tallow is wonderful Rudy. Is this your first tallow soap?

Not really, I have Tabac and also the Valobra and Speick sticks, it was just a total different experience, seems like this soap is really good moisturizing.
Friday night when it came, I just made a little lather in my hand with a new brush (to clean the brush and test this soap) and put it on my right cheek, not to shave, though. I then used a wet towel and wiped it away like I would do after shaving. I could feel a distinct difference between my cheeks for hours. The right one felt smooth and slick. I never had a similar feeling before with any other cream or soap. Although, I think my Floris Elite cream is a bit similar - at least on me - very moisturizing.

this is another example of ymmv.

i've used the tabac several times now, and have not been impressed; at all.

to me, with my conditions, the PC wins over tabac, hands down. i get just as good of lather with PC, and it is much more buffering and a much smoother shave, than tabac.

I actually like the tabac's scent, and wish it was a better performer for me, but i've not had razor burn and irritation like i've had with tabac

this is totally my opinion, and is not meant to stir the pot. just as there are loyal tabac fans, there are those of us who are not. i've not given up total hope on it though.... i'll periodically come back to it and give it another whirl; maybe i'm just doing something wrong. however, the co bigalow and pc work fine with my technique

Please tell me I'm not the first one to go for the juvenile humor here. :)

PC, Tabac, Palmolive stick, Old Spice, vintage Williams, even (gasp!) modern Williams, all great shaving tallow goodness, and I like every one of them.

That said, I just had an astoundingly good shave with Tom's of Maine Calendula cream, and it's all veggies, no beef.

I do love the feeling of tallow based soaps on the skin, and the moisturizing properties.

We live like kings, to have so many great choices around.

That's true...the PC IS very moisturizing. My skin felt great afterwards, but the shave itself wasn't up to snuff.

My thoughts exactly. Huge lather but sub par shave. I mostly use the pc unscented as a lather stabilizer when superlathered with MWF and DR Harris soaps to stabilize and thicken the lather. Works wonders in that regards. Give it a shot, I think you'll like it.
