Talk About YMMV - Jaw-Dropping Amazon Review

So I was browsing reviews for the Merkur 34c on Amazon.com, even though I've got no real reason to buy another razor right now (I started with an EJ DE89 and just added a Super Speed and a Slim to my shaving den.)

Among the usual glowing reviews for the Merkur was one comment that I found jaw-dropping. I know that "YMMV" and that we each get different results with popular brands of blades. For example, I get only 3 shaves out of the Astra SP blades that last some guys 6 or 7 shaves. Yet I was still amazed to read this:

"... the Merkur blades are indestructible! I have been shaving with the same blade it came with, which was over 2 years ago!"

Holy cow! Two years on the same blade? That is a record I have no intention of trying to beat. I can't imagine using one blade for two weeks, let alone two years.

That guy must have skin like a
rhinoceros!

I'll tell you another funny story...

I gave my wife's cousin a Feather portable razor and a few Feather blades. After about 6 months, I asked him "so... you still using the razor"... he says... "YES! it's amazing, and I haven't even changed the blade yet." I was in utter shock. I looked at his face and granted he is a 1 pass shaver... his shave wasn't super close but his face was in great condition... no cuts, blemishes, red bumps or nicks. Maybe some guys just have leather faces?

2 years on 1 blade just doesn't sound possible.
I guess a good question to ask would be if he is a daily shaver.

I can get 2 weeks out of a Feather with daily shaving.

Engaging the placebo effect is a good way to uncover our many biases. Believe that the blade will last longer than you think it should and it will.
