Tabac EDT

I am intrigued by the praise for the Tabac soap. So much so, that I have a puck on the way. I like to wear scents that others do not wear, and I have a feeling Tabac is one of those. Being that I know of nowhere near me that would have a sampler bottle to test out, I have no way to know what the cologne smells like. Particularly, the EDT spray. For anyone who has owned the EDT spray and the soap, how similar are they? How about the EDC splash? I am not a fan of splashes personally, and I know that EDC's are generally a "weaker" scent than the same flavor EDT. Sometimes, they even smell slightly different. I am more interested in the EDT spray, so any insight would be much appreciated, as it would basically be a blind buy from the internet. While the $25 price tag would not exactly break the bank, I am very picky on my scents, and would hate to think I just wasted $25 on a scent I dont like.

If you like the soap, get the EDC, then decant to a spray bottle.

I find it has lasting power without being overpowering, and while I haven't tried the EDT, I've read it's not as close to the soap scent as the EDC.

the EDT is more floral than the EDC, which is much closer to the scent of the soap.

The ASL splash is similar to the EDC/Soap.

In terms of one being stronger than the other, I find that the EDC lasts all day, and can still get the odd whif the next day.

I have the EdC splash and would say it is a pretty similar smell to the soap...just not as soapy. I'd recommend it personally, but I'd definitey wait until you get the soap before you make a decision. If you like the soap though I'd say you should be set with the EdC...haven't tried the EdT myself.

I can say for sure that my girlfriend really likes the EdC...so it is a win win for me.

I like the soap, the AS and the EdC. I think that they all work together very well. On the other hand, I don't care much for the EdT. I've tried it a couple of times at fragrance counters and I thought that it was unpleasantly floral. It recovered a bit in the drydown, but I wouldn't buy it myself.

It's easy enough as Topgumby says to decant the EdC into a spray bottle or atomizer of some kind. It's also kind of fun to use it out of the gigantic milk bottle, just like the aftershave.

I agree with all points made made by The Nid Hog. The EdT seems to come from a completely different place than all the other products. I don't care for it, but I have a hard time giving it a chance. I just keep thinking "this doesn't smell like Tabac".

Well, my puck of Tabac soap arrived this morning. Like a kid on christmas morning, I destroyed the box to get it out and get a whiff. I must say that I really like the scent, and am looking forward to my next shave. It is a very soapy scent though. I see that the general consensus is that the EDC is similar, but less soapy, which could only be a good thing. I may have to bite the bullet and get the EDC and a small atomizer. Just to save some money, I may also use an old aftershave bottle and decant some of the EDC into it, along with some witch hazel, and make my own AS out of it if I like it enough.

I would have shaved today with it, but I have decided that as much as I like to be clean shaven around my beard on a regular basis, my skin just cannot take shaving any more frequently than about every 3 days. I shaved on tuesday, and again on thursday, and the razor burn and irritation on my neck were almost unbearable until I woke up this afternoon. I will use it tomorrow and make my final determination on the scent, as well as my first experience with a tallow based soap. I'm looking forward to it.

FWIW, my experience is that everything other than the soap is way too strong in scent. It's not pleasant to my nose, but it's nothing short of revolting to SWMBO. I'd recommend getting a decant of this stuff prior to buying the whole bottle because it's significantly stronger than the soap.

I have the entire range of Tabac products (except the AS Balm) and their scent is unique and hard to describe in words. Many threads here have been devoted to verbalizing the Tabac experience, and it defies easy categorization. It is unique.

One thing I have found is that I get the best results when I use all the products together. Nothing goes better with Tabac shave soap except more Tabac products. Just like the individual instruments in an orchestra, they may sound good one at a time, but put them all together, and they make beautiful music.

I'm in complete agreement here. SWMBO absolutely loves the smell, and they all go together to complete the ensemble.

I have the EDT and am not very fond of it. I found it a little too feminine for my tastes. Love the soap, love the ASL. Haven't connected with the EDT..

YMMV of course.

Holy cow! I went to the little cologne store I always buy from todya to look for several scents. My taste in scents has changed from the more sweet scents to a spicier more leather style of scent. While I was there, I figured I would check to see if they had Tabac. They had the 10oz gargantuan bottle of EDC. I tried it, and it is definitely a great scent. I was ready to buy it, and I asked how much it was. She quoted me $47!! You can buy this online for less than $20! I guess I know where I'll be getting it from, and it wont be my usual place.

I'm wearing it right now. I also like the UAD. :biggrin1:

Now that I've had a chance to smell it, I will for sure be buying it. I bought an TSA approved atomizer (because that is the only one they had) today in preparation for it. I think I am going to pour some in the atomizer, and empty out my bottle of Clubman Original and mix the Tabac with some Witch Hazel and make an AS also.

I did pick up a sample bottle of Halston Z14 and a small .5oz bottle of John Varvatos (though admittedly sweet, I still like it), along with a bottle of CO Bigelow black. My wife is most definitely not pleased with my cologne AD. I've had it for years though, so at least it is nothing new.

While I was there, I took a whiff of Burberry London, and it was a really nice scent as well. I had no intentions of spending the $47 (they seem to like that number) on a bottle today, but for what it is, it didnt seem like a bad price.

I've been using the tabac deo stick for a while, quite close to the soap scent. Next purchase I'll throw in the "milk jug" of EdC. I use the CO Bigelow Red Elixer quite often, really love it and good staying power.

I picked up the EDC in a spray not long ago. No need to decant.

Me, too. Maybe a week ago. The 3.4 oz size though, not the 10 oz size. As far as I kniow, the 3.4 oz size of the EdC only came in an atomizer. There was no splash option in that size where I was.

To my nose the EdC and the EdT are related but fairly different scents. Like most folks, I guess I would say that I like the EdC better. The EdT does seem sweeter/more floral. It is not that I do not like it. I just do not like it as much as the EdC. Tabac is great stuff to my nose.

It's official. SWMBO is disgusted by the Tabac. I had put it on, and about 10 minutes later I gave her a hug as I was getting ready to leave, and she pulled away with a face not far from what a really sour pickle gives you. she said it is vile, and it smells cheap. She even threatened to pour the bottle out.

It may go in the for sale forum in a couple of days if anyone would be interested. It is basically a full, brand new bottle, minus about 5 squirts from an atomizer I bought.
