Tabac at London Drugs??

I was in a London Drugs tonight (Vancouver Island, Canada), specifically in the cosmetics section (yes, with my girlfriend!!) and saw that they carry Tabac deodorant, aftershave balm, and cologne! Of course I asked the department staff if they could also bring in the shave soap and she said it would have to be a request to head office - so I think there should be a mass request for them to bring it in! It would be great if I could buy this stuff locally instead of having to order.

Hi Dave: :biggrin1:

I know, isn't that galling to see everything *except* the shave soap there?

I just asked this very same question a couple of days ago:

At least you may have found a way in there.

I emailed them tonight, and received the following response:

Dear Barry,

Thank you for your inquiry regarding Tabac shaving soap.

London Drugs strives to provide excellence in customer service and it is
through feedback such as yours that we may continue to monitor our
standards.

Unfortunately, the shaving soap was discontinued from our inventory some
time ago, which is usually because of slow sales. I apologize for any
inconvenience this may cause you.

Thank you again for your time to contact us with your inquiry. We
appreciate your patronage and look forward to serving you in the future.

Sincerely,

Anita

I have been asking different London Drugs on the Island for years.

Good luck with that...

You would have better luck with Pharmasave.

Though it tis a passion of ours, sadly I fear too few embrace the "badger."

As such you find your drug store stocks everything but the shave soap. These stores are hard ***- since the invention of the bar code, they know what's moving and what isn't.

For what it's worth, I'm the second largest city in USA, and it's only through some specialty stores and Barney's that I've ever even seen nicer shaving stuff.

I've never seen a shaving soap puck in any conventional US chain drug store.

Actually, it was AOS and their heavy push to begin that shifted me to shaving with soap and a brush. Were it not for them, I might still be using Edge or some other canned crap.
Smart move on the part of AOS and now I gather they've been bought by Gilette (BOOOOoooooo).

Now I'm just another lunatic out cruising the web.

But they ship ups to Canada so be ready for large "brokerage fees"

I live in Vancouver, Canada, and ordered from FragranceX. I got the puck & bowl for $23 Cnd. It took a while (3 weeks I believe if I remember correctly) but was sooo worth it

I paid no brokerage fees. Order without fear. Great deal :thumbup1:

I've been asking M&W's Canadian distributor for the shave soap for quite some time, and they don't seem to be interested.

Mine came in the mail, and it was faster than Riley's.... so order away... It's SO worth it.

In fact, I'm about to head to the shower this minute and have a Tabac-alicious day off work.

Sadly I agree with most of your post. Traditional wet shaving is definitely a niche market and products are somewhat hard to find, but not impossible. Just like you I was also introduced to wet shaving through AOS.

However, I have to disagree with one portion of your post. 99% of chain drug stores I have ever been in stock shaving soap pucks and carry at a minimum either Williams or Van der Haagen shaving soap. However, this might only be because the midwest has more traditional tastes. This might not be the case in your part of the country. I could see southern California favoring more "trendy" and modern products.

What I think it boils down to is that it is probably more important what area of the country you live in and what the preferences are for that area than what the size of the city is.

I do feel greatful to be able to walk into the local drug store & pick Proraso off the shelf
I will never take that for granted

I've hit a couple newer drug chains out here in the past few days and did indeed notice a Williams puck or two. But there's usually just one orphan puck sitting there.

AOS is heavily inserted in a lot of stores out here, and now have a growing mall presence with their own stores.

If I go into beauty supply stores, I find a fair number of our products in there. Just scored some Proraso that way. Haven't run into Tabac yet though.

Ah, didn't realize that. I have a USA shipping address I generally use for online orders, just makes everything easier.

I think AOS is overall a good thing. They're clearly a marketing heavy company but their products are pretty good, maybe a little overpriced, but most importantly I think they're acting as a town crier for simply getting the word out about wetshaving, and I've heard/seen many people who've started with their product who used to just do canned gel and mach 3 now switch. In most cases it doesn't go beyond that but in some it leads to B&B level interest, so overall I think they're helping to revive what I think has been a relatively dying artform.

I also feel very fortunate to be able to get Proraso so easily. Buying some is essentially casting a vote for quality wet shaving supplies.

But seeing all that Tabac stuff, everything except the shave soap, is making me crazy. :001_tt1:
