Switch to straight razor,help.

So I've been using a DE safety razor for about 6 months now and want to switch.I want a good set to buy.what do I need, and also what is stropping? Why do people sharpen razors when there only a few cents? Thanks anyone for your advice!

Then, buy a shave ready razor (or two) and a strop. I would suggest buying a razor on the BST here, or the shave-ready Gold Dollars being sold in the hobbyist section, or a sight-unseen razor from Whippeddog.com. Stropping on newspaper is a good way to start, then upgrade to the whipped dog poor mans strop kit or the star shaving Big Daddy.
