Sweet Maria's Clever Coffee Dripper

After two decades of french press, I was craving a non-gritty cup of coffee - I foudn my old ceramic melitta pot, but cannot find the pour-over cone holder.

I found an old glass pot with a plastic filter cone at value village for $5 and then I saw the Clever Dripper from SM's.

Picked it up this am across the border in WA, and will ramp it up first thing in the AM.

Anybody out there use one of these? any comments / tips?

Looks great. I have never used one but it looks ideal to control your brew time.

This afternoon I wanted a single brew cup but did not feel like using the Aeropress, instead I used on old round plastic basket from a discarded drip coffee maker. Problem was finding something to plug the drip hole to control the brew time, I ended up using the end of a chopstick. It worked out okay, but not nearly as easy as this Clever Dripper would have.

I've used one of these for several months and it is wonderful. I recently forked out the $ for a Technivorm but to tell the truth the Clever Coffee Dripper makes just as good a cup. I usually use it to brew directly into a 16 oz stainless thermal cup.

My recipe is:
Boil fresh filtered water in the electric kettle
Grind 30 gm fresh home roasted coffee into filter
Fill the CCD with water just off boil
Cover CCD with a saucer to prevent heat loss
Stir with spoon after 1.5 minutes
Place CCD on top of cup at 3.5 minutes
Let drain completely
Enjoy a wonderful cup!

thanks for the 'recipe'

with the 30 grams of coffee - do you fill the CCD up to the top? How much water are you using?

I have one and love it. It was my first "real" coffee brewer purchase.

Its very simple to use

I use 18grams of freshly ground coffee and about 10 ounces of water.
Let it brew for 3.5 minutes and Im good to go.

Clean up is simple

I may have to pick one of those up. I've been using a Melitta plastic pourover, but this seems like a better design. I also like that I could use a #4 swiss gold filter with it and avoid the paper flavors that can sometimes pop up.

As an aside, anyone know of a #2 gold filter?

I think I've seen a #2 - check if Sweet Marias has one.... place a B I G order :wink2:

I used the CCD twice this weekend, and I'm a believer.

I really liek the idea of letting the coffee brew for a few minutes (I let is brew for three) before letting it drip.

Nice, clean cup.

Wanting for wisdom
I've been looking at this thread and trying to figure out what made this clever coffee dripper better than the old Melita setup. But then thebikingengineer mentioned the stopper. Nice idea.

I've been enjoying an Aeropress for the last year or so. Have any of you tried this?

That's funny I have one being shipped right now. I was wondering how good it would work. Sounds like a great concept. Thanks for the info.

So I tried out the idea this morning by plugging the drain hole on my Melitta pourover with my finger (put my finger over the hole). I learned two things; first thing is that coffee is very hot, and the second thing is that brew which comes out is a big step up from what I've been getting from the pourover. I may be picking one of these up.

I love this device. I use it for tea and coffee. I seem to use less tea than I normally would. Coffee, I am still working on my coffee to water ratios.:thumbup1:
