Svensk Drom - Pics Included

Afternoon board,

I am on vacation and found this shaving soap in a little supermarket, it is Svensk Drom Havssalt Tval Sea Salt Soap. Anyone have any experience with it? It was $6.00 a puck. Should I stock up while I am here? Not sure if it is a good price for it. - John

I remember seeing Swedish Dream at Shoebox where he claims it is made in the USA. Sorry, haven't tried it but I am curious, I hope someone comes along with a report. Bath soap?

Says it can be used for shaving and it also says made in the USA on the box. I hope it will melt down well so I can put it in my new mug.

If it doesn't melt easily (try a sliver or two first), take a coarse cheese grater, shred the soap puck, and pack the shreds tightly into your mug. When you add a few drops of water, it will solidify and work just as well as the factory-formed puck.

I will definitely take your advice. I know it was only $6.00 but I don't want to ruin it and I have spent about $70 this month to get started in DE shaving.

Well I tried to melt some and that will not work with this soap, so I tried the cheese grater and packing it. Needless to say I will not be doing that often didn't seem to work to well for me. It is in a mug now cooling some hopefully it will be hard by tomorrow.

This is a body/hand soap for use in salt water, yachting people use it. If it's possible for shaving I don't know. The only occasions when I use a canned soap is when being in the archipelago.

Thanks for your input, seems like very interesting soap. I love the smell of it. Today I am going to try to shave with it.

Let us know how it goes. I saw a puck of this a while back, but didn't buy it as I had no idea how it would actually shave.

Well I used it today and I liked it. It produces a very thick lather much better then the starter puck of VDH I am using. Here's to many more fantastic shaves with it.

No pics of the lather will be shown. Lol my technique is still horrible so I do not get any where near the results the rest of the board will get. Any pics of Williams anywhere? Still very new so I have not seen what that puck looks like.

I recently bought this product to use as a shower soap; it seems good for that IMO, but the packaging says it can be used for shaving as well. I tried it and was very surprised how good it is!

I use an ordinary ceramic coffee mug for these types of soaps, just wet it down and I use my brush to work up a lather- it is a somewhat watery lather, but it gets the job done well. A good smooth shave was had, and my face feels good afterwards. I normally use Proraso, and I like that too much to give it up; but this Swedish soap is damn good.

I would advise anyone who is researching different shave products to give it a try.

i purchased some of this at the yankee candle flagship store yesterday for $5.99. can't wait to try it out. its a tripled milled soap, so makes sense it won't melt good. its very hard and quite big. i think i read somewhere its like 4.3 or 4.5 ounces. smells really good, nice and fresh. i'll report back my findings on lathering it up.

Drops right in to a OS mug, lathered quite well ( better than Williams, which I tried many times to lather ) wonderful salty scent that I think would be best suited to a warmer climate or time of year. As a note this really opens up the pores & clears the head ( much like Epsom salt ). user beware! Packs an extra punch to a/s containing alcohol.
