Super super lather combos?

I tried super lather for the first time last week. First built up some lather with proraso soap. Then added a dollop of palmolive classic shave cream to my brush and proceeded to work it all up on my face (I've only ever face lathered - yet to try bowls, scuttles et al) The lather that I managed to get was much better than anything I had ever managed to get with either of those products individually - the resulting lather had the cushioning and zing of the proraso and the slickness and the old school fragrance of the palmolive.

Since then I've been hooked to combination lathering and have been trying different combos on each shave. Some worked really well - examples are the one above, and Park Avenue Classic with GFT sandalwood (though it left my skin feeling a bit tight after the shave). One that did not work very well was the Godrej shave round with the park avenue classic.

It would be interesting to know some killer combos that work really well for super lather fans - and also ones that are compete flops.

My favorite-

Penhaligons BB cream+Penhaligons EF soap (old formula)

first did this as a drunken joke last new years and it was the best shave I've ever had.

kiss my face and van der hagen work well for me, though I think the KMF does more than the VDH anyway.

I've been wanting to try to stick a puck of VDH on top of a puck of williams and nuke them both until the VDH melts around the williams. I bet that would be an interesting shave!

I like to maintain like-brands whenever I SuperLather, but that's not always possible. An unscented cream like KMF will mix well with whatever soap you want to use it with. Likewise, a mildly scented soap like MWF and Cade work well with most creams.

Some of the better combos I've come up with are:

Proraso soap + Proraso cream
Tabac soap + Tabac cream
Tabac soap + Cremo cream
Williams soap + KMF fragrance free
Cade soap + KMF Lavender/Shea
MWF soap + Musgo Real cream

The MWF+MR gives you a double-dose of Lanolin, and Tallow to boot! But it needs a lot of water, and works best as a sloppy-wet consistency. I put in 2 to 3 times as much water into this recipe as I do into any of the others.

I've never found a SuperLather combo that is a complete flop, but there probably are some that exist.

Today I had Classic Brand lime and coconut soap with TOBS sandlewood cream - great.

Yesterday it was Erasmic soap and cream - also great.

I have tried many creams with Wool Fat soap - all great.

From my experimentation, it is hard to find a bad super lather comb.

I can second the Williams + KMF combo, particularly the Lavender KMF. It's weird, because I don't like Williams by itself, and KMF is mediocre/decent, but the combo was quite nice.

So far I've only done KMF Lime with Mama Bear Lime Ice. Lots of lime, a nice hit of menthol, and lots of lather. I like it so much, the VDH I bought for superlathering has sat in the closet so far.

My Fav Super combos are;

Proraso SC / SS
Trumpers Coconut SC / C&E Sandalwood SS
Godrej Menthol Mist SC / Proraso SS

I use Mama Bears Unscented soap and have tried Proraso, TOBS almond, T&H Ultimate Comfort, GFT's Coconut, and a few other creams all with success.

Every one has been a success.

Proraso + Palmolive Deluxe has to be my go to super lather combo for now - am getting amazing shaves and the lather smells/feels incredibly good!

You shave drunk? That scares me a bit, I think I would cut myself up horribly.

I normally don't superlather, but today I wanted to use my Nomad soap and J.M. Fraser cream. Good lord it was fantastic. Thickest lather I've ever made, and it had a great woodsy/grassy/lime scent. I'll probably stick to my normal lathers and break this out on special occasions. :thumbup1:

cella + cyril salter almond.
jm fraser's original + prairie creations tangerine.
tsd coconut/lime/verbena + gft coconut soap.

Amazing the combos we come up with.

Today I used my usual Mama Bears unscented soap and mixed it with equal parts of T&H ultimate comfort and TOBS almond. :thumbup1: Intense is the word to describe it.
