Super Cheap Shave Bowl for Soaps

Refill: $5-15

In-a-Bowl: $15-35

So if you're anything like me, a 15 dollar bowl should contain a hot meal or if you on the west coast, should contain something cheech and chong would approve of.

Definitely not a mere bowl, aesthetics be damned.

I've had some TOBS sitting around waiting for a bowl. Went to goodwill bought a marble granite bowl for 2 bucks. But it's too heavy to be practical and didnt have a lid. Then i realized i had a pantry of canning jars from years of veggie gardening. Now, all canning jars are not created equal

What you need to get is a 12-pack of 1/2 pint TAPERED WIDE MOUTH canning jars. (7$) The tapered wide mouth jars dont have shoulders so you can swirl youre brush around without hitting the sides because there is plenty of room. The inside demensions of a 1/2 pint tapered jars are nearly identical to the bowl Tabac's comes in. Plus you get lids for all of them. Plastic one piece lids are available as well, if you find the standard metal rings a hassel. Personally i don't.

It took about 5 minutes to melt it in the microwave and press it into the jar. The fit is perfect, the entire package is a good size, weight, and durable.

AND... best of all, these jars stack very nicely. Very easy to organize. I'd take a picture of how clean and neat it looks, but im far too lazy.

side note, and added bonus: i'd rather have a stack of jars than a bunch of silly dishes. Because having a counterful of cosmetic looking stuff can really spark some strange comments out of roommates, guests, and women....

I have a couple of those jars around and thought the same thing. Then I realized that if I drop it, its gonna shatter into a thousand pieces....

But if it works for ya... thats what counts!

I have all my soaps in the 4oz plastic tubs that Mama Bear soaps come in. They work great, stack well, and won't break.

You might not want to try melting Tabac or any other non-glycerin soap, by the way.

I just bought a pack of these from my grocery store last week, before seeing this and man was it a disaster. My lids came in two pieces.. it's the crap you gotta heat. If I could find plastic caps, i'd be in heaven. But so far, I milled down some of my Ian S. and williams, and that's it. After that, I figured it wasn't worth it. Besides, any soap that i'm gonna buy a bowl for is because i'm gonna be displaying it out in my bathroom, everything else goes in the cabinet. And i'm willing to spend the price on those bowls, for those are most likely going to be the soaps that i've tried first and intend on buying refills for. ie. AoS, MWF, C&E, Tabac, etc

i didnt melt it, just heated it up a little to make it pliable. no worse than being in a hot car.

Why is it bad to heat it?

If it breaks, just put it in another jar. they're less than a buck. And if you want plastic lids they're usually sold seperately next to the jars. i would only use theband if it was put away. for now it's just a flip-top haha

and wow TOBS is so much slicker than tabacs. ive never been able to get a slick enough lather with tabacs.

I cellar a bunch of pipe tobacco in those 4oz canning jars.. they are pretty tough you would have to drop them on concrete and then they wouldn't break 1/2 the time. Once sealed with standard lids your soap/cream is not going to dry out. Think they would be great for stuff not in your regular rotation. Or you could upgrade to the Ball Quilted Crystal Jelly Jars.
