Suggestions for pre-shave

for several years i used and enjoyed Art of Shaving sandalwood preshave oil.
for past year or two, i've just used a glycerin soap rubbed onto stubble, then lathered with badger brush, then light rinse.
either way is excellent, imo. try for yourself and decide.
