Suggestions for Next Balm to Try?

After shaving, I use an alum block followed by Thayers, witch hazel (original) and CO Bigelow balm (silver band).

I am very happy with the combo, but would like to try another balm if someone has a good recommendation.

TIA.

What particular characteristics are you looking for in terms of scent, etc?

Nivea Sensitive would be my top recommendation.

Body Shop used to have a very good balm called "razor relief". It was unscented but the ingredients have been changed slightly and it is only offered in a scented version now. If you go to a store, they will give you a sample of that along with any other sample you ask for.

I also like to use Daniel Kern moisturizer as a aftershave balm.

Recently, I bought the LEA aftershave balm from shaveabuck but I've not actually tried it yet.

If you don't mind spending a little more I highly recommend anything from the Castle Forbes line. SWMBO asked me to pick one scent and stick with it and we settled on the 1445. Its really wonderful stuff. Of course I did refuse to give up my Speick for those time when I want to use a splash.

The Nivea is great for such a low cost balm. I also like the Pre de Provence balm, but it will cost you a little more.

L'Occitane Cade aftershave balm!!! I have it on my face right now and it feels buttery smooth and incredible!!

I am mostly looking for moisturizing and skin conditioning (I am not sure if there is a difference between the two). As for fragrance, I am not fussy, but want it to be subtle.

I would check out the Castle Forbes ASBs (the large bottle is pricey, but the travel size is affordable, and a little goes a long way), and the L'Occitane ASBs (both Cade and L'Occitan are stellar in both performance and scent--both are offered in a smaller once ounce size, in addition to the big $29 tube).

here are 2 to consider

gentlemen's refinery standard ASB....
a truly outstanding balm that is light, not greasy and great smelling. it also works like few things i've tried. see joel's review of it in the reviews section. fair warning, it's pricey.

saint charles shave aftershave milks
perhaps one of the best deals in ASB's. inexpensive yet effective. long-lasting and available in a variety of scents. a seldom-lauded gem

After using the alum block, then some Witch Haxel, then more water, I really do like the Nivea Sensitive Skin a/s balm. Very soothing, easy to find and low cost.
